ROAD FLARES

The following are specifications for Road Flares:

· Fusees must comply with Interstate Commerce Commission regulations

· Fusees must carry approval of the Bureau of Explosives

· Fusees must be listed by the Underwriter’s Laboratories

· The tube of each fusee shall not be less than 7/8ths of an inch in diameter and shall be colored red to indicate the burning color of the fuse.

· The base shall be permanently attached to the base of the fuse. It shall be one length of wire, 18 gauge or heavier (as measured by the American steel and wire standard – Washburn & Moan), which when properly bent shall support the fusee in an upright position. This wire, when the fusee is packed for shipping, is to start from a point approximately seven (7) to eight (8) inches from the top nestling snuggly to the side of the tube. The wire is to be attached to the base of the fusee by a collar of extra strong paper or heavy duty cardboard, which shall be securely fastened to the base of the fusee by gluing. The free ends of the wire base shall be bent back and doubled over for a distance of one-half (1/2) inch so as to present a rounded, smooth end. The doubled over portion shall be pressed tight so that there will be no separation between the two sections of bent wire.

· The head composition shall not completely cover the end of the fusee. Such head composition shall be protected from moisture by a coating of water proofing substance.

· Each fusee shall burn for at a minimum of thirty (30) minutes, either in an upright or a horizontal position.
