About this file
This file comprises landscape and irrigation design plans for the Kanapolis State Park Visitor Center project developed by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) Engineering Division. The project involves comprehensive landscaping installation including trees, shrubs, perennials, ground cover plants, seeding, sod installation, and a complete irrigation system. The landscape work includes 28 distinct items ranging from ornamental plantings (such as Celebration Maples, Eastern Redbuds, and Autumn Fantasy Maples) to hardscape materials (steel edging, landscape rock, and black plastic weed control), with quantities specified for each plant type and material. The irrigation system design calls for a main valve assembly with multiple zone valves, polyethylene mainline piping at 100 PSI minimum, lateral lines at 80 PSI minimum, professional spray heads, soaker hoses with pressure-compensating flow regulators, and a 20-station controller. The project manager is Brett Blackburn (Engineering Division Director) and the park manager is Jason Sunderland at Kanapolis State Park.
The specifications require that the landscape contractor possess a minimum of seven years of full-time professional experience in landscape installation with verification of at least five projects of similar size and complexity. Similarly, the irrigation contractor must demonstrate a minimum of seven years of full-time professional irrigation installation experience with at least five comparable projects completed. All plant materials must comply with ANSI Z60.1 standards and include a full 12-month warranty against death, disease, and unsatisfactory growth commencing after project completion or substantial completion. The contractor bears full responsibility for utility location coordination through Kansas One Call System, site staging and storage, material disposal, and protection of existing utilities and monuments. Soil preparation, proper installation techniques, mycorrhizal inoculant application, mulching, and tree staking are detailed specifications. The contractor must submit shop drawings for owner approval prior to fabrication and provide third-party construction staking through a KDWP-approved survey firm.
