About this file
This document provides machining specifications and requirements for ASTM E647 Compact Tension Specimens manufactured from cast Nickel Aluminum Bronze metal blanks. Metal blanks will be received on pallets in multiple boxes with dimensions of 4x3.85x1 inches. Each blank includes an attached outline drawing that indicates the notch orientation, which must be maintained throughout the final machining process. The blanks are identified by non-sequential blank numbers, but contractors must use the assigned Sample Names for all labeling and identification purposes. Sample names include 24 specimens designated as CT-LR1 through CT-LR12, CT-CR1 through CT-CR12, CT-CLR4 through CT-CLR6, CT-CCR4 through CT-CCR6, CT-TLR4 through CT-TLR6, and CT-TCR4 through CT-TCR6.
Quality control and handling requirements specify that each sample must be bagged separately with the sample name written on the bag. Sample identification through stamping or engraving is permitted only on the faces indicated by arrows on the drawing. The material specification notes that some blanks may contain visible porosity as a cautionary consideration. The technical drawing provided illustrates the final specimen geometry with detailed dimensions, including hole sizes, notch specifications, and overall profile measurements conforming to ASTM E647 standards.
