About this file

This is a specification document for coiled aluminum license plate material issued by Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi), a division of the Colorado Department of Corrections. The procurement requires 3105H21 aluminum alloy in coil form with specific dimensional and material properties: 21 gauge thickness (.027"), coil width of 11.98 to 12.00 inches, ultimate strength of 17,500 to 20,500 PSI, and minimum yield strength of 13,000 to 18,000 PSI with minimum 16% elongation. The material must withstand embossing operations to a height of .09375 inches without structural failure or surface damage. Delivery is scheduled at three truckloads of approximately 37,000 pounds each per month until the complete order is fulfilled, with receiving limited to Monday through Thursday, excluding state holidays.

The aluminum must be processed with Bonderite M-CR 1430 C pretreatment and a conversion coating per ASTM B-449-Class 2 specifications, with coating weight between 25 and 35 mg/sq. ft. Coils shall be wound on 20-inch diameter cores with maximum outside diameter of 45 inches and maximum weight of 1,500 pounds per coil, properly banded to prevent telescoping and separated by 2x2-inch wood spacers. All coils must be free from edge damage, wound tightly with no more than 1/16-inch interweave, and configured to unwind clockwise. Material must be protected from moisture and foreign material during transit. The contact for specifications and delivery coordination is Lucas Crocker, Colorado Correctional Industries Supervisor, located in Canon City, Colorado.
