PROPOSAL (Instructions)

MH-60T Cockpit Procedural Trainer (CPT) Visual Upgrade MH-60T CPT Projector Replacement and Image Generator Update
Requirements Current functionality: The current MH-60T CPT visual system consists of three existing Christie Generation 1 Matrix StIM projectors, a PC Nova 6.X image generator and a Real Image Cylindrical Screen. The MH-60T CPT has served well as a checklist and procedures trainer. Due to increased training demand the CPT has been relied upon to serve as an operational trainer which requires more fidelity in the visual system.
Desired functionality: In order to increase the trainer functionality this ECP will replace the existing projectors, image generators and screen with a system that is designed and optimized for out the window (OTW) rendering with night vision goggle stimulation capability. The visual system will be designed around the existing government furnished MH-60T CPT and FSI Dome Glass Mirror 260x60 Accuview 60 screen. It should also include a projector auto-alignment system that maximizes color matching and geometric image quality matching calibration. The image generator shall use the current Aechelon Global Database installed on all other training devices at ATC Mobile.
Reason for the change: The visual display system is the original installed on the CPT and has exceeded its’ designed service life.
Components are outdated and no longer available to facilitate a one for one replacement. New components are not compatible with old due to advancements in technology requiring replacement of the system vice individual components. Additionally, system malfunctions and repairs that interrupt training are occurring more frequently.
Impact on training, if denied: Without this projection system replacement, image quality and brightness will decrease to the point that the CPT will no longer be effective in support of pilot transition, recurrent and proficiency training objectives.
Aircraft will need to be pulled from operational service to support dramatically reduced student throughput. The economic and training benefits of the flight simulator will be lost. These include: the total net present value cost for non-simulation-based training is four times the cost of simulation-based training, simulators facilitate 2:1 student to instructor ratio that minimizes ATC staffing requirements, and more importantly, without the OFT, aircrews will be unable to practice critical safety of flight maneuvers and emergencies otherwise deemed too risky to conduct in aircraft.
