About this file

This document contains pictures and specifications for two new rappel towers to be constructed at the Central Oregon Helibase. The Forest Service is seeking a design firm to create plans for two towers that will mimic the existing John Day Rappel Tower design with some modifications. The new towers will each have two extended simulators like the one circled in red in Picture 2, and will remove the mid-height simulator circled in blue to create an observation deck. The roof will be covered and one foot higher than the roof in Picture 3 to allow for head clearance. Additional details provided include specifications for guardrails, rope anchor points, helicopter skids, and obstruction lighting to comply with FAA regulations. The related solicitation is from the USDA Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region for the construction of the Central Oregon Helibase Rappel Towers, with a submission deadline of April 14, 2023.
