ISOLATION:

• Is for people with symptoms, and confirmed or suspected COVID-19

• Separates people with a contagious disease from those who are healthy

• Restricts movement of people with a contagious disease to stop spread

• Lets people who have a contagious disease get care in their homes, in hospitals, or in a designated facility

• Is usually voluntary; but governments may enforce to protect the public

QUARANTINE:

• Is for someone who is not sick, but has been exposed to a very contagious disease, such as COVID-19, and who may be able to spread it to others

• Involves monitoring, separation and restriction of movement

• Is usually decided by state health departments and state leaders

SOCIAL DISTANCING:

• Is limiting close contact between people, regardless of symptoms.

• Is good practice for everyone during a pandemic

• May include actions by local leaders, such as:

– School dismissals

– Cancellation of public gatherings

– Business closures

– Recommendations for telecommuting
