About this file

This is a specifications document from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) detailing requirements for a hooklift skid-mounted water tank system. The specification calls for a 3,000-gallon water tank system with a 22 gallons per minute capacity, compatible with a 16-foot Stellar brand hook lift skid. The tank must be constructed of 3/16-inch carbon metal with dimensions of approximately 192 inches in length, 96 inches in width, and 86.5 inches in height. The system includes a 4-inch by 4-inch self-priming pump rated at 650 gallons per minute with total dynamic head capability at 2,400 RPM, powered by a diesel engine rated at 49 horsepower (Tier 4 or newer, CARB compliant) with an 8-gallon minimum fuel tank. The platform measures 36 inches by 96 inches with the engine and pump mounted on the front deck.

The system must include an in-cab control system for engine and spray bar functions, with quick disconnect connections and remote start capability when the skid is disconnected from the truck. Additional specifications include a spray bar with two adjustable sprayers, a hydrant fill system with a 3-inch pipe and 2.5-inch ball valve, a 1-1/2-inch by 50-foot spring rewind hose reel, storage tubes for self-loading hose (minimum 10.5 feet long on each side), water discharge valves at multiple locations (rear 2.5-inch, 1.5-inch, and 1-inch, and 2.5-inch valves on left and right sides), a water level sight gauge, a ladder for dome access, a 10-inch manual telescoping gravity water dump at the rear, three zinc anodes, and a 2.5-inch hose roll holder with 25-foot capacity. The entire system is to be painted international red, with the supplier responsible for installing cab controls in the CAL FIRE truck next to the Stellar lift controls.
