About this file

This document provides staffing ratios for a Veteran's Health Administration Patient Aligned Care Team. The table outlines the minimum direct patient care full-time employee equivalents required per provider type, including primary care physicians to support 1,200 unique patients, mental health care psychiatrists to support 700 unique patients, and social workers allocated at a ratio of one full-time employee per two primary care physicians. Support roles like registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, clerks, and clinical pharmacy specialists are also defined based on ratios tied to primary care physicians and mental health care providers. The related federal contract opportunity is a re-solicitation for outpatient care services at the Tupelo, Mississippi Community Based Outpatient Clinic, with Davis Bacon wage rates and clauses added.

The number of Primary Care Providers (PCPs) required is determined by PC patient panel size. The number of PCPs determines the number of support staff needed to optimize patient management. Similarly, the number of Mental Health Care Providers (PHPs) required is determined by MH patient panel size. The number of MHPs determines the number of support staff needed to optimize patient management.

The table below lists the VHA ratios of support staff per PCP, MHP, Mid-Level Providers (both PC & MH), and Social Workers.
