Waste Water Treatment Plant Operation Services at Sector Field Office Eastern Shore
70Z08420QAA554400
Attachment 3 – Technical Exhibit 2
A. Routine Tasks
1. General
a. Be sure tanks are kept completely free of any mud, sand, gravel, rocks, boards, etc.
b. Be sure that top of tank walls are always sufficiently above finished grade to prevent surface water from entering plant.
c. Scum return pipe should be adjusted so that water will be about 3/8" to 1/2" deep in the notch. Adjust air valve so that water falls about 2" down in the pipe.
2. Daily
a. 30 minute settling test using one (1) sample from aeration tank and one (1) from the effluent from the settling tank.
b. Complete checklist.
c. Clean accumulated solids from inlet sewer in bar screen and place in container for lime stabilization before landfilling.
d. Clean the grease and floating solids from walls and water surface of aeration and settling tanks.
e. Check all equipment to see if it is operating properly and if any fuses are blown.
f. Clean the growths and accumulated solids from weirs and pipe inlets.
g. Check to see if diffusers and aerators are all working properly and not plugged.
h. Check to see if air lift sludge return pump or skimmer is clogged or about to clog.
i. Refill chlorine tablets and de-chlorination tablets.
j. Run pH, dissolved oxygen and residual chlorine tests.
k. Mix soda ash solution and apply when required (operator determined).
3. Weekly
a. Check oil level in blower.
b. Check time setting on time clocks.
c. Scrape wall and hoppers of settling tank.
d. Clean trash and weeds from around plant and equipment.
4. Monthly
a. Check trash trap and clean when necessary.
b. Lubricate blower bearings.
c. Check v-belts for proper tension and wear. Replace when necessary.
d. Check air filter and clean when necessary.
e. Check ventilation and carbon filter system in building.
5. Annually
a. Check zinc anode protection. Because of salt water environment, expect to replace anodes protection every two (2) – five (5) years.
b. Wire brush all rusted metal.
6. Lubrication Schedule
a. Blower
Before starting blower, be sure to check to see if oil has been put in the gear housing. The recommended lubricating oil is SAE 30. To add oil or check oil level, be sure oil level pet cock is open, then add oil slowly until it begins to drip from open pet cock, preferably when unit is idle.
Leave pet cock open until oil has stopped running out.
This avoids over lubrication, as too much oil causes heating and oil leakage. Close pet cock after checking oil or filling. Change or add oil as needed.
b. Blower Bearings
Bearings at gear end are lubricated by splash from gears but bearings at drive end are packed with grease prior to shipment. Renew this grease as needed, with the best grade, high temperature, ball bearing grease (not ordinary cup grease) about once a month.
c. Blower Motor
Bearings are packed in grease prior to shipment and need no further lubrication.
d. Foam Control Pump
The foam control pump is a sealed unit and requires no additional lubrication.
B. Outside Service
Simple repairs are performed by the operator. When a repair requires an outside source, the repair service is selected based on reputation, price and convenience, as time and the nature of the repair allow. All required repairs shall be communicated to the COR as soon as possible.
A file shall be maintained for all work completed on any unit in the plant. The record shall indicate the nature of the problem, its cause and cure. This serves as a record of past problems and can be referenced when they recur.
C. Equipment Record System
An equipment record system shall be established and shall contain information on each item of operating equipment to include: Name, Manufacturer, Equipment number (per equipment numbering system), and
Maintenance requirements.
A numbering system shall be provided for each item of equipment requiring maintenance to insure that all equipment receives proper attention. The equipment shall be numbered as follows:
Name Number
Aeration Basin Blower #1 (Left Side) 1
Aeration Basin Blower #2 (Right Side) 2
Froth Control Pump 3
Chlorinator 4
DE chlorinator 5
Tertiary Backwash Pump (left side) 6
Tertiary Backwash Pump (right side) 7
Total Flow Meter 8
Sand Filter Blower 9
Tertiary Backwash Return Pumps (left) 10
Tertiary Backwash Return Pumps (right) 11
Surge/Pump Station Pumps (left) 12
Surge/P ump Station Pumps (right) 13
Chemical Feed Pumps 14
D. Special Tools and Equipment
The following special tools and equipment shall be furnished by the Contractor and kept on-site of the wastewater treatment plant: large and small skimmers, a hose, garbage pail, grease gun, stiff-bristle brush, and short-handled brush.
