Monica Cabin Hantavirus Cleanup Cibola National Forest
SECTION C - Description/Specifications/Statement of Work
Project Scope: The Contractor shall remove and dispose of rodent droppings and any associated contaminated materials from two sites: (1) the Monica Cabin and (2) the pumphouse. The Contractor shall clean and disinfect all accessible surfaces to include opening cabinets and stove doors.
Background:
(1) Monica Cabin is an adobe house built in 1923. It is approximately 940 square feet.
Its design includes some bungalow details such as exposed rafter ends and a line of windows down each long site. Its hipped roof that originally had cedar shake shingles was replaced with metal between 1930 and 1970. The building was an active ranger station and then administrative site with regular use of the interior in the early 1990s. Concrete-based stucco was added outside the adobe walls by 1983 (likely late 70s/early 80s). The building has been evaluated and determined National Register eligible since 1999. The Magdalena Ranger District intends to redevelop the cabin into a usable space retaining as many of the historic elements as feasible.
