About this file

This is a Project Specifications document for the Lake Conasauga Water Well construction project located at Lake Conasauga Campground in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, Murray County, Georgia, prepared by the U.S. Forest Service, Region 8 Engineering.

The project encompasses drilling and construction of a water supply well with a minimum yield of 5 gallons per minute (GPM) maintaining constant head during 24-hour drawdown testing. Well depth shall range from a minimum of 100 feet to a maximum of 800 feet, with casing extending a minimum of 100 feet below grade and 10 feet into bedrock. The contractor must install 6.25-inch nominal diameter Solvent Weld Bell End SDR-21 PVC well casing, conduct grout sealing of the annular space using cement slurry per ASTM standards, perform well disinfection with chlorine solution, and complete 24-hour yield and drawdown testing. Water quality testing is required for physical, chemical, microbiological, and radiological parameters, with all results submitted to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD). The contractor must obtain all necessary permits from Murray County and GA EPD prior to drilling and maintain a licensed Georgia water well contractor on site. Additional work includes site clearing and grubbing with erosion and sedimentation control, installation of a concrete pad minimum 6 inches thick extending 3 feet around the well casing, and provision of a locking plastic protective cover. Mobilization costs shall not exceed 10 percent of total contract bid price. Payment is structured through lump sum and actual quantity line items for drilling, casing, grouting, well development and testing, sterilization, surface seal installation, site restoration, mobilization, and optional items for second well drilling or first well abandonment if viability is not achieved. The work must be completed during normal business hours (Monday–Friday, 0700–1800) without disruption to Forest Service operations, with all temporary facilities and controls removed and the site restored to near-natural conditions upon completion.

CLEARING AND GRUBBING 311100 - 3

B. Vegetation equal to or less than 6 in diameter measured outside of bark to outside of bark shall be chipped on site with chips blown/spread at least 10 past the centerline of the installed water main. Material larger than 6 can be left on site but must be moved so it is between 25 and 50 past the centerline of the installed water main. This material must be cut so it is no higher than 3 above the ground and not piled. There is no burning allowed! Material that is larger than 6 is the Contractors property, including merchantable timber, and can be removed from the site at the Contractors expense.

Removal operations for this merchantable timber shall be coordinated with the CO and shall in no way compromise new or existing infrastructure that is to remain.

C. All stumps shall be removed and properly disposed of off of Government property. This includes stumps that are removed if trees are pushed over or are removed after the tree is cut off. Stumps shall be cut off at the bottom of the main boll. No stumps will be allowed to remain attached to trees that are left on site. If the CO determines a stump can remain in the ground after a tree has been cut off, the stump must be cut off flush to the ground.

D. Clearing restrictions The Contractor must verify with the CO of any clearing restrictions.

3.3 DAMAGED TREES TO REMAIN

A. Treatment of damaged (scarred) trees shall be done by applying a tree wound compound in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

B. Operators, who continuously damage trees that are not required to be removed, will be barred from the jobsite and notification will be provided to the Contracting Officer.
