About this file

This is a State of California Bid Specification document for wooden pallets (Commodity Group-Class 3990) that establishes technical and quality standards for pallets to be used with low lift pallet trucks or forklift trucks. The specification covers two primary pallet types: Type 2 standard wooden pallets and Type 4 single wing wooden pallets, with six commonly used size configurations ranging from 42"L x 36"W to 48"L x 48"W. The document was initially released in January 2001 and revised on February 10, 2020 (Revision 1) to address ADA compliance and remove non-applicable requirements. The specification provides detailed construction requirements for both top and bottom deck configurations, including specific measurements for deck-boards and stringer placement for each size variant.

All wooden pallets procured under this specification must be of sturdy construction and in adequate condition to ensure delivery of goods without damage or safety hazards. The specification does not reference applicable laws or industry standards, nor does it address pricing terms, contract duration, or award procedures. This specification serves as the technical foundation for the related statewide contract solicitation for procurement activities, with final pallets required to meet the dimensional and construction standards detailed in the attached figures and tables.
