About this file

This is a technical specification document from the US Coast Guard Shore Infrastructure Logistics Center defining requirements for the fabrication of wood piles, Medium Density Overlay (MDO) plywood, and range kits for aids to navigation, dated September 2024.

The specification details four standardized range kit sizes (10, 12, 14, and 16 ft platforms) with accompanying hardware kits, four wood pile lengths (45, 50, 55, and 60 ft) in both treated and untreated options, and one type of MDO for dayboard construction. Key requirements include material specifications for steel hardware (zinc-plated SAE Grade 5 bolts/nuts meeting ASTM A449), wood piles (Class B Douglas fir or Southern pine meeting ASTM D25), and preservative treatment standards (CCA waterborne preservative with 2.5 pcf retention). The document outlines detailed quality assurance requirements including monthly status reports, inspection procedures, and documentation requirements using DD Form 250. Shipping requirements specify self-offloading capabilities for wood piles and minimum load quantities of 35 wood piles, 4 range kits, or 1000 sheets of MDO per truck.
