Statement of Work

Shade Systems at USMARC

A. Scope and Background

The USDA, ARS, U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a large facility home to thousands of head of cattle and sheep. The livestock are utilized for several research projects ranging from genetic and breeding to nutrition and meat safety projects. The care of the livestock is of the upmost importance and as such USMARC has a requirement to extend, inspect, and retract NetPro Protective

Canopy shade systems covering feedlot pens and sheep pens to aid in mitigating the effects of the heat of the summer months.

There is a total of 161 NetPro Protective Canopy shades at USMARC that will need to be extended, inspected, and retracted yearly. The fabric of the canopy shades becomes worn over the years due to use and the extreme weather conditions they withstand so a portion of them will need to be replaced yearly. Below is a schedule complete with the sizes USDA is interested in replacing as the years progress.

B. Technical Requirements

There are 113 NetPro Protective Canopy shade systems covering the 100 series, 200 series, 300 series, 400 series, 600 series pens, 700 series pens, 800 series and group of sorting pens at the feedlot. There are 48 of these over the 100 series sheep pens. Attachment 3 Feedlot Shade Structures and Attachment

4 Sheep Shade Structures depict the location and overview of shades. We are requesting a base year with four option years of shade work.

All shade systems must be extended during the month of May. Contractor shall perform a mid-season inspection of each of the shades yearly and provide a quote to USMARC to repair any damage or missing materials found. All shade systems must be retracted during the month of October. All tools and equipment needed for the extension, inspection, and retraction are of the responsibility of the contractor. USMARC is not responsible for any tools or equipment for the work required in this contract.

Furthermore, contractors shall identify, record, and communicate with USMARC representatives where tears or damage in shades exist during the extension and retraction of the shades and provide quotes to repair or replace missing materials. Contractor must be in contact with USMARC representative to coordinate scheduling to prevent conflicts.

It is requested that a contractor utilize tools and methods recommended by U.S. NetPro to ensure the proper tension of wires during the extension which attach to the existing cables.
