About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a Timber Stand Improvement project by the USDA Forest Service in the Eastern Region. The contract involves non-commercial thinning of dense timber stands across five units totaling 83 acres near Durbin, with the goal of improving tree growth and wood production. The project requires felling trees while leaving hardwood trees (except beech and striped maple), maintaining specific crop tree spacing of 8x8 feet, and leaving cut trees on site.

The contract period is from 30 June 2025 to 31 May 2026, with contractors having one year from award date to complete the work. Payment will be based on sample inspections, with potential reductions if work does not meet 90% satisfactory standards in crop tree spacing and felling techniques. Contractors must follow specific operational guidelines, including maintaining 50-foot buffers from forest service roads, removing slash from trails, and protecting boundary trees. Site access involves traveling north from the Bartow office on State Route 92/250, with unit boundaries marked by pink paint on border trees. A site visit can be scheduled by contacting Matthew Rao at (304) 718-2954.
