The contractor must establish and manage a 200-row nursery consisting of 30 rows of self-pollinated corn and 170 rows of paired corn for cross-pollination, with all rows measuring 2.5 meters long and planted with 8 kernels per row.
The contractor is responsible for all field operations including land preparation, planting, monitoring, weed and pest control, pollination services, irrigation, and fertilization. Harvesting must occur when seed reaches ¾ milk line development or 55 days after final pollination, with ears dried using forced air heat not exceeding 35 degrees Celsius to achieve 12-14% moisture content. The contractor must obtain a seed import permit from local government, provide phytosanitary certificates and agricultural inspections to meet APHIS standards, arrange fumigation as required, and prepare dried seed in harvest bags for boxing and shipment. All harvested seeds must be boxed with weight and container information provided to USDA for freight procurement, then shipped via FedEx and/or UPS to the USDA ARS Corn Host Plant Resistance Research Unit at 150 Twelve Lane, Mississippi State, MS 39762, USA. The nursery must be completely harvested and returned by March 15, 2027.
