About this file

This is a technical specification document from the State of California Department of General Services (DGS) and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) for a Wildland Firefighting Protective Ensemble (WFPE). The specification establishes minimum requirements for a comprehensive protective garment set including a yellow wildland jacket and two types of dual-compliant pants - tactical and work/uniform - in midnight navy color. The ensemble is designed for CAL FIRE personnel and must meet specific National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards across multiple dimensions including fabric composition, construction, sizing, labeling, and functional features like pockets, closures, and reinforcements.

The technical specification details precise requirements for fabric composition, with the jacket made from a 7 oz. blend of Meta-Aramid, Polyamide, Para-Aramid, and Lenzing FR, and pants constructed from a 7.5 oz. blend of Meta-Aramid, Para-Aramid, and Anti-Stat material. The document lists approved manufacturers including CAL PIA, Crew Boss, Workrite, and Cascade Propper, with specific item/model numbers for each garment type. Sizing ranges from XS to 4XL for jackets, with pants available in even waist sizes from 26 to 52 inches and inseam lengths from 28 to 36 inches. The specification emphasizes flame-resistant materials, NFPA compliance, durability through multiple commercial launderings, and functional design elements to support firefighter mobility and equipment carrying needs.
