About this file
This document contains detailed specifications for a Utility Vehicle (UTV) procurement by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service for the Pisgah Ranger District in North Carolina. The required vehicle is a Polaris General XP 4 1000 Ultimate or equivalent 4x4 UTV with specific mandatory specifications, including a 999 cc gasoline motor, automatic transmission, 4-person seating, certified Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS), front and rear hydraulic brakes, 1100 lbs payload capacity, and a 600 lbs cargo storage bed. Additional required options include a hard poly roof, full glass windshield, half doors, headache rack, 4500 lb winch, front and rear arm protectors, front and rear bumpers, bed extender, and rock sliders.
The document also includes a comprehensive 12-page appendix comparing vehicle standards across multiple categories such as OPEI, ROHVA, LSV, and LUV standards, detailing technical requirements for off-highway utility vehicles. These standards cover attributes like intended use, vehicle speed, width, weight rating, cargo capacity, safety features, braking performance, lateral and pitch stability, and various operational requirements. The specifications emphasize safety standards, including rollover protection, seatbelts, occupant protective structures, and performance testing criteria for braking, stability, and vehicle handling.
