SECTION 011000

SUMMARY

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

1.2 PROJECT INFORMATION

A. Project Identification: Stuart Bathroom Roof Replacement

a. Project Location: Stuart Recreation Area, near Elkins, WV.

B. Owner: USDA Forest Service

1.3 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

A. The Work of Project is defined by the Contract Documents and consists of the following:

a. See Statement of Work and other Work indicated in the Contract Documents.

1.4 CONTRACTOR'S USE OF SITE AND PREMISES

A. Restricted Use of Site: Contractor shall have limited use of Project site for construction operations as indicated by requirements of this Section.

B. Limits on Use of Site: Limit use of Project site to Work in areas indicated in this section, and other parts of the contract documents if applicable. Do not disturb portions of Project site beyond areas in which the Work is indicated.

a. Limits on Use of Site: Confine construction operations to areas immediately surrounding the bathroom building for each roof replacement and necessary access routes.

b. Driveways, Walkways, and Entrances: Keep driveways and entrances serving premises clear and available to Owner, Owner's employees, and emergency vehicles at all times. Do not use these areas for parking or for storage of materials.

C. Condition of Existing Building: Maintain portions of existing building affected by construction operations in a weathertight condition throughout construction period. Repair damage caused by construction operations.

D. Condition of Existing Grounds: Maintain portions of existing grounds, landscaping, and hardscaping affected by construction operations throughout construction period. Repair damage caused by construction operations.

1.5 COORDINATION WITH OCCUPANTS

A. Full Owner Occupancy: Owner will occupy site during entire construction period. Cooperate with Owner during construction operations to minimize conflicts and facilitate Owner usage. Perform the Work so as not to interfere with Owner's day-to-day operations. Maintain existing exits unless otherwise indicated.

1.6 WORK RESTRICTIONS

A. Comply with restrictions on construction operations.

a. Comply with limitations on use of public streets, work on public streets, rights of way, and other requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.

B. On-Site Work Hours: Limit work on the existing building to normal business working hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless otherwise approved by the COR or CO. No work shall be allowed on weekends or Federal holidays without the written permission of the contracting officer (CO).

C. Smoking and Controlled Substance Restrictions: Use of alcoholic beverages, and other controlled substances on Project site is not permitted.

1.7 PROTECTION OF PUBLIC AND PROPERTY

A. Provide and maintain temporary barricades and warning signs to control access to protect the public and construction personnel from construction hazards.

B. Comply with Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations concerning construction safety and health standards. Do not expose the public to or require any workers to work under conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to health and safety.

C. Repair damage to existing public and private improvements to original condition at no additional cost to the Government. Control dust and noise to protect adjacent property from damage.

1.8 SAFETY

A. The contractor shall prepare a safety plan to protect employees and the public during the duration of the work. The plan shall be submitted as an informational submittal to the CO and COR prior to the pre-work meeting.

B. Comply with all applicable OSHA Standards.

C. Comply with all FAR clauses in this contract to include FAR 52.236-13 and other applicable clauses.

D. The safety of the contractor’s employees is the sole responsibility of the contractor.

E. In case of conflicts between Federal, state, and local safety and health requirements, the most stringent shall apply. Equipment or tools not meeting OSHA requirements will not be allowed on the project sites.

Failure to comply with the requirements of this section and related sections may result in suspension of work.

F. If hazardous materials are encountered, do not disturb and stop work if necessary; immediately notify Contracting Officer.

1.9 CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE

A. Submit Construction Schedule to CO and COR prior to pre-work meeting. Include planned start and finish dates for each of the exercised items from the Schedule of Items.

1.10 CLEANING

A. After completion of construction operations, sweep area surrounding building (30ft radius from eaves of building minimum) with bar magnet for nails and other metal objects from operations. Perform until no nails or other metal objects are picked up by the magnet. Pickup by stainless steel fasteners that are not picked up by the bar magnet by hand or use of appropriate tools.

B. Clean up, remove, and properly dispose of all excess materials and debris resulting from the work.

1.11 WARRANTY

A. Workmanship Warranty: Contractor agrees to repair or replace completed work that fails within the warranty period due to poor quality installation or other contractor error.

1. Workmanship Warranty Period: 2 Years from Date of Final Acceptance.

1.12 SPECIFICATION AND DRAWING CONVENTIONS

A. Specification Content: The Specifications use certain conventions for the style of language and the intended meaning of certain terms, words, and phrases when used in particular situations. These conventions are as follows:

a. Imperative mood and streamlined language are generally used in the Specifications. The words "shall," "shall be," or "shall comply with," depending on the context, are implied where a colon (:) is used within a sentence or phrase.

b. Text Color: Text used in the Specifications, including units of measure, manufacturer and product names, and other text may appear in multiple colors or underlined as part of a hyperlink; no emphasis is implied by text with these characteristics.

c. Hypertext: Text used in the Specifications may contain hyperlinks. Hyperlinks may allow for access to linked information that is not residing in the Specifications. Unless otherwise indicated, linked information is not part of the Contract Documents.

d. Specification requirements are to be performed by Contractor unless specifically stated otherwise.

B. Division 01 General Requirements: Requirements of Sections in Division 01 apply to the Work of all Sections in the Specifications.

SECTION 012200 - UNIT PRICES

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. Section includes administrative and procedural requirements for unit prices.

1.02 DEFINITIONS

A. Unit price is a price per unit of measurement for materials, equipment, or services, or a portion of the Work, added to or deducted from the Contract Sum by appropriate modification, if the scope of Work or estimated quantities of Work required by the Contract Documents are increased or decreased.

1.03 PROCEDURES

A. Unit prices include all necessary material, plus cost for delivery, installation, insurance, applicable taxes, overhead, and profit.

B. Measurement and Payment: See schedule of items. See specifications as applicable.

C. Owner reserves the right to reject Contractor's measurement of work-in-place that involves use of established unit prices and to have this work measured and documented by a government official or an independent inspector.

D. List of Unit Prices: A schedule of unit prices is included in Part 3. Specification Sections referenced in the schedule contain requirements for materials described under each unit price.

3.01 SCHEDULE OF UNIT PRICES

A. See Schedule of Items

1. Actual Quantity (AQ) – Actual quality provided and installed under the contract.

Shall be measured using the units given in the Schedule of Items. Measured Quantities shall be rounded up to the nearest whole unit (ex. .3 square feet would round up to 1 square foot).

2. Lump Sum Quantity (LSQ) – 1 complete unit of work. All work described under the item in the schedule of items and work incidental to the same item shall constitute 1 complete unit of work. There shall be no increase to the quantity in the Schedule of Items for Lump Sum Quantity items.

SECTION 013300

SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Submittal schedule requirements.

2. Administrative and procedural requirements for submittals.

1.02 DEFINITIONS

A. Approval: Equivalent to “No Exception Taken”.

B. Approved or Approved Equivalent: To possess the same performance qualities and characteristics and fulfill the utilitarian function without any decrease in quality, durability or longevity. For equipment/products defined by the Contractor as "equivalent", substitution requests must be submitted to Contracting Officer’s Representative for consideration and be approved by the COR in writing. Approval shall constitute “No Exception Taken” and shall not be otherwise construed.

C. "No Exception Taken" constitutes that review is for general conformance with the design concept expressed in the Contract Documents for the limited purpose of checking for conformance with information given. Any action is subject to the requirements of the Contract Documents. Contractor is responsible for the dimensions and quantity and will confirm and correlate at the job site, fabrication processes and techniques of construction, coordination of the work with that of all other trades, and the satisfactory performance of the work.

D. Action Submittals: Written and graphic information and physical samples that require CO or COR’s responsive action. Action submittals are those submittals indicated in individual Specification Sections as "action submittals."

E. Informational Submittals: Written and graphic information and physical samples that do not require CO or COR’s responsive action. Submittals may be rejected for not complying with requirements. Informational submittals are those submittals indicated in individual Specification Sections as "informational submittals."

1.03 SUBMITTAL FORMATS

A. Submittal Information: Include the following information in each submittal:

1. Contract Name and Number.

2. Date.

3. Name of Contractor.

4. Name of firm or entity that prepared submittal.

5. Names of subcontractor, manufacturer, and supplier.

6. Category and type of submittal.

7. Submittal purpose and description.

8. Number and title of Specification Section, with paragraph number and generic name for each of multiple items.

9. Drawing number and detail references, as appropriate.

10. Indication of full or partial submittal.

11. Consecutive transmittal number.

12. Submittal and transmittal distribution record.

13. Other necessary identification.

B. Options: Identify options requiring selection by Contracting Officer/COR.

C. Deviations and Additional Information: On an attached separate sheet, prepared on

Contractor's letterhead, record relevant information, requests for data, revisions other than those requested by Contracting Officer on previous submittals, and deviations from requirements in the Contract Documents, including minor variations and limitations.

Include same identification information as related submittal. Include the Contracting Officer on all deviation requests.

1.04 SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES

A. Prepare and submit submittals required by individual Specification Sections as PDF electronic files and as indicated for samples and other physical submittals. Types of submittals are indicated in individual Specification Sections.

B. Submittals shall be transmitted via email to the COR & CO.

C. Identify and incorporate information in each electronic submittal file as follows:

1. Assemble complete submittal package into a single indexed file incorporating submittal requirements of a single Specification Section and transmittal form acceptable to Government with links enabling navigation to each item.

2. Provide means for insertion to permanently record Contractor's review and approval markings and action taken by COR.

D. Coordination: Coordinate preparation and processing of submittals with performance of construction activities.

1. Coordinate each submittal with fabrication, purchasing, testing, delivery, other submittals, and related activities that require sequential activity.

2. Submit all submittal items required for each Specification Section concurrently unless partial submittals for portions of the Work are indicated on approved submittal schedule.

3. Submit action submittals and informational submittals required by the same Specification Section as separate packages under separate transmittals.

4. Coordinate transmittal of different types of submittals for related parts of the Work so processing will not be delayed because of need to review submittals concurrently for coordination.

a. Contracting Officer or COR reserves the right to withhold action on a submittal requiring coordination with other submittals until related submittals are received.

E. Processing Time: Allow time for submittal review, including time for resubmittals, as follows. Time for review shall commence on Contracting Officer's and COR’s receipt of submittal. No extension of the Contract Time will be authorized because of failure to

1. Initial Review: Allow 15 days for initial review of each submittal. Allow additional time if coordination with subsequent submittals is required. Contracting Officer or COR will advise Contractor when a submittal being processed must be delayed for coordination.

2. Intermediate Review: If intermediate submittal is necessary, process intermediate review in same manner as initial submittal.

3. Resubmittal Review: Allow 15 days for review of each resubmittal.

4. Sequential Review: Where sequential review of submittals by Contracting Officer's consultants, Government, or other parties is indicated, allow 21 days for initial review of each submittal.

F. Resubmittals: Make resubmittals in same form and number of copies as initial submittal.

1. Indicate date and content of previous submittal.

2. Indicate date and content of revision in label or title block and clearly indicate extent of revision.

3. Resubmit submittals until they are approved in writing by the CO or COR (in a method acceptable to the specifications or as otherwise described by the CO).

G. Distribution: Furnish copies of final submittals to manufacturers, subcontractors, suppliers, fabricators, installers, authorities having jurisdiction, and others as necessary for performance of construction activities. Show distribution on transmittal forms.

H. Use for Construction: Retain complete copies of submittals on Project site. Use only final action or material submittals that are approved in writing by the Contracting Officer or

COR.

1.05 SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Product Data: Collect information into a single submittal for each element of construction and type of product or equipment.

1. If information must be specially prepared for submittal because standard published data are unsuitable for use, submit as Shop Drawings, not as Product Data.

2. Clearly mark each copy of each submittal to show which products and options are applicable.

3. Include the following information, as applicable:

a. Manufacturer's catalog cuts.

b. Manufacturer's product specifications.

c. Standard color charts.

d. Statement of compliance with specified referenced standards.

e. Testing by recognized testing agency.

f. Application of testing agency labels and seals.

g. Notation of coordination requirements.

h. Availability and delivery time information.

4. Submit Product Data before Shop Drawings, and before or concurrent with Samples.

5. Submit Product Data in PDF electronic file.

B. Shop Drawings: Prepare Project-specific information, drawn accurately to scale. Do not base Shop Drawings on standard printed data.

1. Preparation: Fully illustrate requirements in the Contract Documents. Include the following information, as applicable:

a. Identification of products.

b. Schedules.

c. Compliance with specified standards.

d. Notation of coordination requirements.

e. Notation of dimensions established by field measurement.

f. Relationship and attachment to adjoining construction clearly indicated.

2. Paper Sheet Size: Except for templates, patterns, and similar full-size Drawings, submit Shop Drawings on sheets at least 11 by 17 inches, but no larger than 30 by 42 inches (750 by 1067 mm).

3. Submit Shop Drawings in PDF electronic file.

C. Qualification Data: Prepare written information that demonstrates capabilities and experience of firm or person. Include lists of completed projects with project names and addresses, contact information of Contracting Officers and other information specified.

D. Design Data/Product Data/Materials Submittals: Prepare and submit written and graphic information indicating compliance with indicated performance and design criteria in individual Specification Sections. Include list of assumptions and summary of loads.

Include load diagrams if applicable. Provide name and version of software, if any, used for calculations. Number each page of submittal.

E. Certificates:

1. Certificates and Certifications Submittals: Submit a statement that includes signature of entity responsible for preparing certification. Certificates and certifications shall be signed by an officer or other individual authorized to sign documents on behalf of that entity. Provide original paper copy where a notarized signature is required.

2. Installer Certificates: Submit written statements on manufacturer's letterhead certifying that Installer complies with requirements in the Contract Documents and, where required, is authorized by manufacturer for this specific Project.

3. Manufacturer Certificates: Submit written statements on manufacturer's letterhead certifying that manufacturer complies with requirements in the Contract Documents.

Include evidence of manufacturing experience where required.

4. Material Certificates: Submit written statements on manufacturer's letterhead certifying that material complies with requirements in the Contract Documents.

5. Product Certificates: Submit written statements on manufacturer's letterhead certifying that product complies with requirements in the Contract Documents.

F. Test and Research Reports:

1. Compatibility Test Reports: Submit reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting results of compatibility tests performed before installation of product. Include written recommendations for primers and substrate preparation needed for adhesion.

2. Field Test Reports: Submit written reports indicating and interpreting results of field tests performed either during installation of product or after product is installed in its final location, for compliance with requirements in the Contract Documents.

3. Material Test Reports: Submit reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting test results of material for compliance with requirements in the Contract Documents.

4. Preconstruction Test Reports: Submit reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting results of tests performed before installation of product, for compliance with performance requirements in the Contract Documents.

5. Product Test Reports: Submit written reports indicating that current product produced by manufacturer complies with requirements in the Contract Documents. Base reports on evaluation of tests performed by manufacturer and witnessed by a qualified testing agency, or on comprehensive tests performed by a qualified testing agency.

6. Research Reports: Submit written evidence, from a model code organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, that product complies with building code in effect for Project. Include the following information:

a. Name of evaluation organization.

b. Date of evaluation.

c. Time period when report is in effect.

d. Product and manufacturers' names.

e. Description of product.

f. Test procedures and results.

g. Limitations of use.

1.06 CONTRACTOR'S REVIEW

A. Action and Informational Submittals: Review each submittal and check for coordination with other Work of the Contract and for compliance with the Contract Documents. Note corrections and field dimensions. Mark with contractor approval before submitting to Contracting Officer and COR.

B. Contractor's Approval: Indicate Contractor's approval for each submittal with a uniform written approval method. Include name of reviewer, date of Contractor's approval, and statement certifying that submittal has been reviewed, checked, and approved for compliance with the Contract Documents.

1.07 GOVERNMENT REVIEW

A. Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) may approve technical submittals, unless otherwise indicated by the contract documents or determined in writing by the Contracting Officer (CO). COR may review each submittal instead of the CO.

B. Action Submittals: Will be reviewed and their approval status will be documented in a project submittal review XLS spreadsheet returned to the contractor. The specific material items will be included in this review document and notes for approval, disapproval, and resubmittal and any questions on items.

1. All submittals reviewed will be approved in the material review spreadsheet only.

This will be returned to contactor with each submittal group reviewed.

2. No marked up copies of material cut sheets will be returned to the contractor.

C. Informational Submittals: Contracting Officer or COR will review each submittal and will not return it, or may return it if it does not comply with requirements. Contracting Officer or COR may forward each submittal to appropriate party. Contractor is responsible for

March, 23 Roof Replacement with Cedar Shakes 133300 - 6 Submittal Procedures compliance with contract requirements and all applicable laws and regulations regardless of whether mistakes were discovered by CO or COR review of informational submittals.

D. Partial submittals prepared for a portion of the Work will be reviewed when use of partial submittals has received prior approval from COR or Contracting Officer.

E. Incomplete submittals are unacceptable, will be considered nonresponsive, and may be returned for resubmittal without review.

F. Submittals not required by the Contract Documents may be returned by Contracting Officer or COR without action.

SECTION 015639 - TEMPORARY TREE AND PLANT PROTECTION

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. Section includes general protection and pruning of existing trees and plants that are affected by execution of the Work, whether temporary or permanent construction.

1.02 DEFINITIONS

A. Plant-Protection Zone: Area surrounding individual trees, groups of trees, shrubs, or other vegetation to be protected during construction and indicated on Drawings.

B. Tree-Protection Zone: Area surrounding individual trees or groups of trees to be protected during construction and defined by a circle concentric with each tree with a radius of the drip line unless otherwise indicated.

1.03 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

A. Existing Conditions: Documentation of existing trees and plantings indicated to remain, which establishes preconstruction conditions that might be misconstrued as damage caused by construction activities.

1.04 FIELD CONDITIONS

A. The following practices are prohibited within protection zones:

1. Excavation or other digging unless otherwise indicated.

B. Do not direct vehicle or equipment exhaust toward protection zones.

C. Prohibit heat sources, flames, ignition sources, and smoking within or near protection zones and organic mulch.

3. PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 CROWN PRUNING

A. Prune branches that are affected by temporary and permanent construction. Prune branches in a manner that won’t kill the entire tree.

B. Cut branches with sharp pruning instruments; do not break or chop.

C. Do not paint or apply sealants to wounds.

D. Chip removed branches and dispose of off-site.

3.02 DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS AND WASTE MATERIALS

A. Disposal: Remove excess excavated material, displaced trees, trash, and debris and legally dispose of them off Owner's property.

3.03 OTHER

A. Do not cut trees down unless approved by the Contracting Officer in writing.

SECTION 017100

1. WEED AND DISEASE PREVENTION

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This work consists of washing and treating construction equipment to remove seeds, plants, and plant fragments from the equipment before the equipment is used on National Forest System lands.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 WATER

A. Free of debris, organic matter, and other objectionable substances.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL

A. Notify the COR in writing at least 10 calendar days before moving any construction equipment onto National Forest System lands. Construction equipment does not include cars, pickup trucks, and other vehicles that regularly travel between the construction site and areas outside of National Forest System lands.

B. Perform all work at a location designated on the plans or other locations approved in writing or at a site off of National Forest System Lands. Provide the COR with an opportunity to monitor the washing and inspection.

3.2 EQUIPMENT

A. Use a high pressure washing system.

B. For work on National Forest System lands, use a washing system that traps all wash water and either stores it for removal from National Forest System lands or recycles the water for continued use. If the equipment recycles the water, provide adequate filters for seed removal. Dispose of the filter material and removed seeds in an approved manner. Do not mix soaps, detergents, or other chemicals with the wash water.

C. For work at a commercial washing facility, use an approved facility.

3.3 WASHING

A. Wash the sides, tops, and undercarriages of all construction equipment. Remove all seeds, plants, plant fragments, dirt, and debris from the construction equipment.

3.4 INSPECTION

A. Inspect the washed construction equipment, including the undercarriage, to ensure that the washing removed the dirt, debris, and seeds from the construction equipment. Rewash the construction equipment as necessary. Government approval of equipment cleanliness is required prior to unloading at project site.

SECTION 024119

SELECTIVE DEMOLITION

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Demolition and removal of selected portions of building or structure.

2. Salvage of existing items to be reused or recycled.

1.02 MATERIALS OWNERSHIP

A. Unless otherwise indicated, demolition waste becomes property of Contractor.

B. Historic items, relics, antiques, and similar objects including, but not limited to, cornerstones and their contents, commemorative plaques and tablets, and other items of interest or value to Owner that may be uncovered during demolition remain the property of Owner.

1. If encountered, contact COR immediately and leave in place until a determination is made on how to move forward. Work may continue in other areas.

1.03 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS

A. Predemolition Conference: Conduct conference at Project site.

1.04 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

A. Proposed Protection Measures: Submit report that indicates the measures proposed for protecting individuals and property. Indicate proposed locations and construction of barriers.

B. Schedule of selective demolition activities with starting and ending dates for each activity.

C. Predemolition photographs or video.

1.05 FIELD CONDITIONS

A. Conditions existing at time of inspection for bidding purpose will be maintained by Owner as far as practical.

B. Notify COR of discrepancies between existing conditions and Drawings before proceeding with selective demolition.

C. Hazardous Materials: If suspected hazardous materials are encountered, do not disturb;

immediately notify COR and Owner. Hazardous materials will be removed by Owner under a separate contract.

D. Storage or sale of removed items or materials on-site is not permitted.

E. Utility Service: Maintain existing utilities indicated to remain in service and protect them against damage during selective demolition operations.

1. Maintain fire-protection facilities in service during selective demolition operations.

F. Arrange selective demolition schedule so as not to interfere with Owner's operations.

1.06 WARRANTY

A. Existing Warranties: Remove, replace, patch, and repair materials and surfaces cut or damaged during selective demolition, by methods and with materials and using approved contractors so as not to void existing warranties.

2. PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with governing EPA and WVDEP notification regulations before beginning selective demolition. Comply with hauling and disposal regulations of authorities having jurisdiction.

B. Standards: Comply with ANSI/ASSP A10.6 and NFPA 241.

3. PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 UTILITY SERVICES AND MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

A. Existing Services/Systems to Remain: Maintain services/systems indicated to remain and protect them against damage.

3.02 PROTECTION

A. Temporary Protection: Provide temporary barricades and other protection required to prevent injury to people and damage to adjacent buildings and facilities to remain.

B. Temporary Shoring: Design, provide, and maintain shoring, bracing, and structural supports as required to preserve stability and prevent movement, settlement, or collapse of construction and finishes to remain, and to prevent unexpected or uncontrolled movement or collapse of construction being demolished.

C. Remove temporary barricades and protections where hazards no longer exist.

3.03 SELECTIVE DEMOLITION

A. General: Demolish and remove existing construction only to the extent required by new construction and as indicated. Use methods required to complete the Work within limitations of governing regulations and as follows:

1. Neatly cut openings and holes plumb, square, and true to dimensions required. Use cutting methods least likely to damage construction to remain or adjoining construction. Use hand tools or small power tools designed for sawing or grinding, not hammering and chopping. Temporarily cover openings to remain.

2. Cut or drill from the exposed or finished side into concealed surfaces to avoid marring existing finished surfaces.

3. Do not use cutting torches until work area is cleared of flammable materials. At concealed spaces, such as duct and pipe interiors, verify condition and contents of hidden space before starting flame-cutting operations. Maintain portable fire-suppression devices during flame-cutting operations.

4. Locate selective demolition equipment and remove debris and materials so as not to impose excessive loads on supporting walls, floors, or framing.

5. Dispose of demolished items and materials promptly in a legal manner.

B. Site Access and Temporary Controls: Conduct selective demolition and debris-removal operations to ensure minimum interference with roads, streets, walks, walkways, and other adjacent occupied and used facilities.

C. Removed and Reinstalled Items:

1. Clean and repair items to functional condition adequate for intended reuse.

2. Pack or crate items after cleaning and repairing. Identify contents of containers.

3. Protect items from damage during transport and storage.

4. Reinstall items in locations indicated. Comply with installation requirements for new materials and equipment. Provide connections, supports, and miscellaneous materials necessary to make item functional for use indicated.

D. Existing Items to Remain: Protect construction indicated to remain against damage and soiling during selective demolition. When permitted by COR, items may be removed to a suitable, protected storage location during selective demolition and cleaned and reinstalled in their original locations after selective demolition operations are complete.

1. Items remain unless otherwise indicated in the contract documents.

2. Metal Rafters and Fascia Structural Members Shall Remain in Place.

3. Skylights remain.

E. Items to Remove and Dispose of Properly:

1. Existing Roof System Down to Metal Rafters and Metal Fascia

a. All Shakes (Shakes, Ridge Units, Starter, etc.)

b. Underlayment

c. Sheathing

d. All Fasteners (Sheathing, Roof Shakes, Ridge Units, Starters, Underlayment, Flashings as applicable, etc.)

e. Damaged or unusable flashings

f. Vent flashings

2. If Optional Items for “Rafter Insulation Removal & Replacement” are exercised:

a. Existing Insulation in between Rafters.

F. Items to Remove and Reinstall:

1. Fascia Flashing, Drip Edge, and other flashings still in acceptable and functional condition.

2. Replace any flashings damaged by contractor operations. Replace in-kind.

3.04 CLEANING

A. Remove demolition waste materials from Project site and dispose of them in an EPA-approved construction and demolition waste landfill acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

1. Do not allow demolished materials to accumulate on-site.

2. Remove and transport debris in a manner that will prevent spillage on adjacent surfaces and areas.

B. Sweep area surrounding building (30ft radius from eaves of building minimum) with bar magnet for nails and other metal objects from operations. Perform until no nails or other metal objects are picked up by the magnet.

C. Coordinate first subparagraph below with use of elevators, stairs, or building entries permitted by building manager.

D. Burning: Do not burn demolished materials.

E. Clean structure, surrounding area, and other improvements of dust, dirt, and debris caused by selective demolition operations. Return adjacent areas to condition existing before selective demolition operations began.

2.01 ROOF SHEATHING

A. Plywood Sheathing: DOC PS 1, Exterior, Exposure 1 sheathing.

1. Plytanium 19/32-in x 4-ft x 8-ft Rated Pine Plywood Sheathing or approved equal.

2.02 FASTENERS

A. General: Provide fasteners of size and type indicated that comply with requirements specified in this article for material and manufacture.

1. For roof sheathing, provide fasteners with organic-polymer or other corrosion-protective coating having a salt-spray resistance of more than 800 hours in accordance with ASTM B117.

a. Provide Simpson Strong Tie PPHDQ11516B-4K or approved equivalent.

3. PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION, GENERAL

A. Do not use materials with defects that impair quality of sheathing or pieces that are too small to use with minimum number of joints or optimum joint arrangement. Arrange joints so that pieces do not span between fewer than three support members.

B. Cut panels at penetrations, edges, and other obstructions of work; fit tightly against abutting construction unless otherwise indicated.

C. Securely attach to substrate by fastening as indicated, complying with the following:

1. Table 2304.10.1, "Fastening Schedule," in the ICC's International Building Code.

2. Table R602.3(1), "Fastener Schedule for Structural Members," and Table R602.3(2), "Alternate Attachments," in the ICC's International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings.

3. ICC-ES evaluation report for fastener.

D. Coordinate roof sheathing installation with flashing and joint-sealant installation so these materials are installed in sequence and manner that prevent exterior moisture from passing through completed assembly.

E. Do not bridge building expansion joints; cut and space edges of panels to match spacing of structural support elements.

3.02 WOOD STRUCTURAL PANEL INSTALLATION

A. General: Comply with applicable recommendations in APA Form No. E30, "Engineered

Wood Construction Guide," for types of structural-use panels and applications indicated.

B. Fastening Methods: Fasten panels as indicated below:

1. Wall and Roof Sheathing:

a. Screw to cold-formed metal framing.

b. Space panels 1/8 inch (3 mm) apart at edges and ends.

c. Follow manufacturer's recommendations if more stringent than requirements or references found in this specification.

1.08 WARRANTY

A. Materials Warranty: Manufacturer's warranty administered by CSSB and on CSSB's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace CSSB-labeled products that fail in materials within specified warranty period. Material failures include manufacturing defects that result in leaks.

1. Materials Warranty Period: Limited lifetime from date of Substantial Completion.

B. Workmanship Warranty: Contractor agrees to repair or replace completed work that fails within the warranty period due to poor quality installation or other contractor error.

1. Workmanship Warranty Period: 2 Years from Date of Final Acceptance.

2. PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Decay Resistance: Provide Certi-Last Preservative Treated Shakes.

1. Identification: Attach a label to each bundle of wood products; identify manufacturer, chemical treatment, method of application, purpose of treatment, and warranties available.

B. Grading Rules: Provide wood products that comply with CSSB grading rules for products indicated.

1. Identification: Attach a label to each bundle of wood products that identifies manufacturer, type of product, grade, dimensions, and identification mark of grading agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

2.02 WOOD ROOF SHAKES

A. Split Cedar Shakes: Hand-split and resawn western red cedar shakes; rough split face and sawn back.

1. Grade:

a. Roof: Premium.

b. Starter Courses: Premium.

2. Length: 24 inches, with 15-inch-long starter course.

3. Thickness: 3/4 inch at butt.

B. Cedar Shake Ridge Units: Manufactured, western red cedar caps for ridges and hips of same type and grade as exposed roof shakes, 9 inches wide; beveled, alternately overlapped, and nailed.

1. Length: 24 inches.

2. Thickness: 3/4 inch at butt.

2.03 UNDERLAYMENT AND SHAKE INTERLAYMENT MATERIALS

A. Felt: Asphalt-saturated organic felts, nonperforated and complying with the following:

1. ASTM D226/D226M: Type II. or ASTM D 4869/D 4869M, Type IV

2. Use as underlayment and shake interlayment.

B. Self-Adhering, Polymer-Modified Bitumen Sheet: ASTM D1970/D1970M, minimum 40-mil-thick sheet; glass-fiber-mat-reinforced, polymer-modified asphalt; with slip-resistant top surface and release backing; cold applied.

2.04 RIDGE VENTS

A. Flexible Ridge Vent: Manufacturer's standard, compression-resisting, three-dimensional, open-nylon or polyester-mat filter.

1. Benjamin Obdyke Rapid Ridge 7 Ridge Vent or approved equivalent.

2.05 ACCESSORIES

A. Asphalt Roofing Cement: ASTM D4586/D4586M Type II, asbestos free.

B. Elastomeric Flashing Sealant: ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, one-part, non-sag, elastomeric polymer sealant; of class and use classifications required to seal joints and remain watertight; recommended in writing by manufacturer for installation of flashing systems.

C. Drainage Mat: Manufacturer's standard, compression-resisting, three-dimensional, nonwoven, entangled filament, nylon mat designed to permit air movement and to drain incidental moisture by gravity.

1. Benjamin Obdyke Cedar Breather® Ventilated Underlayment or approved equivalent.

D. Roofing Nails: ASTM F1667, stainless steel, Type 316, box-type wire nails, sharp pointed, and of sufficient length to penetrate a minimum of 3/4 inch into sheathing or to penetrate through roof sheathing less than 3/4 inch thick.

1. Use 316 Stainless Steel Ring Shank nails to fasten shakes, starters, and ridge units.

2. Where nails are in contact with metal flashing, use nails made from same metal as flashing.

E. Underlayment Nails: Stainless steel wire nails with low-profile metal or plastic caps, 1-inch-minimum diameter.

1. Provide with minimum 0.0134-inch-thick metal cap, 0.010-inch-thick power-driven metal cap, or 0.035-inch-thick plastic cap; and with minimum 0.083-inch-thick ring shank or 0.091-inch-thick smooth shank of length to penetrate at least 3/4 inch into roof sheathing or to penetrate through roof sheathing less than 3/4 inch thick.

2.06 METAL FLASHING AND TRIM

A. If fascia shield/drip edge is damaged during installation, replace in-kind. Match existing flashing color.

B. Provide flashings around skylights as necessary to prevent leaks. Ensure flashing construction is of a metal compatible with the skylight, to reduce the potential of corrosion.

Match skylight color. See CSSB “New Roof Construction” manual for flashing requirements around skylights.

C. Vent-Pipe Flashings: Appropriately sized rubber vent pipe flashing. Oatey All Flash No- Calk Part #11920, 11919 or approved equivalent.

D. See Section 076200 for other requirements.

3. PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION OF UNDERLAYMENT MATERIALS

A. Comply with underlayment manufacturer's written installation instructions and with recommendations in CSSB's "New Roof Construction Manual" applicable to products and applications indicated unless more stringent requirements are specified in the Section or indicated on Drawings.

B. Felt: Install on roof deck parallel with and starting at eaves and fasten with underlayment nails.

1. Single-Layer Installation:

a. Lap sides a minimum of 4 inches over underlying course.

b. Lap ends a minimum of 4 inches.

c. Stagger end laps between succeeding courses at least 72 inches.

2. Install fasteners in a grid pattern of 12 inches between side laps with 6-inch spacing at side and end laps.

3. Terminate felt flush against sidewalls, curbs, chimneys, and other roof projections.

C. Self-Adhering, Polymer-Modified Bitumen Sheet: Install, wrinkle free, on roof deck to at least 36” inside the exterior wall line of the building at eaves and rakes.

1. Comply with low-temperature installation restrictions of underlayment manufacturer.

2. Install lapped in direction that sheds water.

3. Lap sides not less than 4 inches. Lap ends not less than 6 inches, staggered 24 inches between succeeding courses.

4. Roll laps with roller.

5. Install in accordance with manufacturer recommendations if more stringent.

3.02 INSTALLATION OF METAL FLASHING AND TRIM

A. Skylight Flashings: See CSSB “New Roof Construction” manual for flashing requirements around skylights.

B. Pipe Flashings: Form flashing around pipe penetrations and wood roofing. Fasten and seal to wood roofing. See vent pipe flashing requirements in Part 2.

C. Roof Edge Flashings:

1. If fascia shield/drip edge is damaged during removal of existing roofing system or during new roof installation, replace in-kind. Match existing flashing color.

3.03 INSTALLATION OF WOOD ROOF SHAKES

A. Install wood roof shakes in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions and recommendations in CSSB's "New Roof Construction Manual".

B. Install drainage mat perpendicular to roof slope in parallel courses, butting edges and ends to form a continuous layer, and fasten to roof deck.

C. Install wood-shake starter course along lowest roof edge.

1. Install in double layer with joints offset a minimum of 1-1/2 inches.

2. Extend 1-1/2 inches over fascia.

3. Extend 1 inch over rake edge.

D. Install first course of wood roof shakes directly over starter course and in continuous straight-line courses across roof deck. Install second and succeeding courses of wood roof shakes in continuous straight-line courses across roof deck.

1. Extend 1 inch over rake edge.

2. Felt interlayment is used with roof shakes to intercept and shed rain and snow driven up under the shakes.

3. Interlay 18-inch-wide strip of felt over top portion of first and each succeeding course. Set bottom edge of felt interlayment at a distance of twice the weather-exposure dimension above the shake butt. Stagger fasten to roof deck with felt-underlayment nails.

4. Offset joints between shakes in succeeding courses a minimum of 1-1/2 inches.

5. Space shakes a minimum of 3/8 inch and a maximum of 5/8 inch apart.

6. Maintain weather exposure of 10 inches for 24-inch-long shakes.

E. Ridge Vents: Install continuous ridge vents over wood roof shakes in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. Fasten with roofing nails of sufficient length to penetrate sheathing at least ¾” or full depth of sheathing.

F. Ridge Units: Install units over wood roof shakes trimmed at apex of ridges and hips.

1. Fasten ridge units to cover ridge vent without obstructing airflow.

2. PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Sheet metal flashing and trim assemblies, including cleats, anchors, and fasteners, are to withstand wind loads, structural movement, thermally induced movement, and exposure to weather without failure due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction. Completed sheet metal flashing and trim are not to rattle, leak, or loosen, and are to remain watertight.

B. Sheet Metal Standard for Flashing and Trim: Comply with NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing Manual: Architectural Metal Flashing, Condensation and Air Leakage Control, and Reroofing" requirements for dimensions and profiles shown unless more stringent requirements are indicated.

C. Retain "Sheet Metal Standard for Copper" Paragraph below if applicable. NRCA has a testing program and authorized fabricators for particular NRCA copper-sheet metal details.

CDA does not have a testing program or authorized fabricators for its details.

D. Sheet Metal Standard for Copper: Comply with CDA's "Copper in Architecture Handbook."

Conform to dimensions and profiles shown unless more stringent requirements are indicated.

E. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes to prevent buckling, opening of joints, overstressing of components, failure of joint sealants, failure of connections, and other detrimental effects.
