About this file
This is a Specification of Supplies document for a multimodal microscope slide scanner system required by the USDA Agricultural Research Service Responsive Agricultural Food Systems Research Unit (RAFSRU) located in College Station, Texas. The specification details requirements for a digital slide scanner, integrated analysis software, and supporting computer capable of both brightfield and fluorescent imaging for histological analysis of plant and animal tissues. The required system must meet or exceed the specifications of the Aperio FL120 Scanner and include dual-mode CMOS camera technology with pixel resolution of 5.5 x 5.5 microns in brightfield and 6.5 x 6.5 microns in fluorescence mode.
The scanner system must provide fully automated scanning with tissue identification capabilities, accommodate z-plane scanning from 0.1 to 3 micron steps for fluorescent imaging, and possess a 120-slide loading capacity with scan speeds under 450 seconds for standard 15 x 15 mm slides at 20X magnification. The instrument requires an 8-slot automatic filter wheel, 20X and 40X APO objectives with additional capacity for 40X and 63X oil objectives, an automated oiler, and LED light source supporting DAPI, GFP, Orange, CY5, Red, and CY7 imaging. Delivery is required within 60 days FOB to the specified Texas location with on-site installation and training immediately following delivery. The vendor must provide one year of phone and virtual support and a minimum one-year warranty from installation completion with a complete service manual. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with federal employee oversight of contractor access and activities.

SPECIFICATION OF SUPPLIES
1.0 Specifications Description
USDA – ARS – RAFSRU conducts research on histological analysis of plant and animal tissues and quantification of biomolecules such a proteins and nuclei acid in tissue sections. USDA – ARS – RAFSRU requires a multimodal microscope slide scanner and integrated analysis software and computer capable of brightfield and fluorescent imaging. The slide scanner is utilized to view, collect and analyze histological images from standard stains, immunohistochemical, immunofluorescent and FISH applications. The instrument should meet or exceed the specifications of the Aperio FL120 Scanner, Brand Name or Equal.
