About this file

This document is a Specification Requirement for Engine Air Filter Guard for the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The Coast Guard seeks manufacturers to produce custom-fabricated intake guards for Cummins engines on 47-foot Motor Lifeboats (47 MLB), with specific requirements including powder coating in black. The initial procurement anticipates purchasing 30-40 guards, with a three-year projection of approximately 120 guards to be distributed across multiple coastal stations including locations in Maine, New Jersey, Delaware, North Carolina, California, Oregon, and Washington.

The specification details a prototype guard designed for the Walker Engineering AIRSEP CCE Coalescing Filter Set, with specific part numbers provided. Shipping destinations are explicitly listed for an initial order, covering 13 locations with quantities ranging from 2-6 guards per station. The document indicates this is currently a pre-solicitation Request for Information (RFI) for market research purposes, with the intention of eventually conducting a competitive award for manufacturing and shipping the intake shields. The procurement is being managed by the Department of Homeland Security US Coast Guard, with Solicitation Number 70Z02325I93250003.

Specification Requirement

Dimensions and details of the guard are included in the attached “Intake Shield Sketch.” An additional requirement would be for the guards to be powder coated, color black. The air filter and assembly being protect by the guard has the following information:

· Walker Engineering AIRSEP CCE

· Coalescing Filter Set, Part Number 1002300

· Air Filter, Part Number 100516

· AIRSEP Assembly, Part Number 1004987 The Coast Guard anticipates purchasing 30 to 40 guards for in-service MLBs. Over the next three years, the Coast Guard anticipates the final quantity will approach a total of approximately 120 guards.

Once available, guards would be shipped to a variety of locations on the east and west coast, with packaging and shipping included in the price of the guard. This list provides ship to locations for an initial order that can be used to estimate shipping costs.

The Coast Guard has prototyped a test guard and installed on the Walker Airsep filter used on the Cummins engine. These are photos of the prototype mounted on the Airsep. This prototype may have additional modifications made before it is released for manufacture:

The Coast Guard is seeking interested sources to manufacture guards very similar to the prototype. Once the prototype has been fully tested, the sketch will be revised and put out for a competitive award to have guards manufactured and shipped.
