About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details a liquid nitrogen delivery system repair project for the USDA's Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC) in Wyndmoor, PA. The project requires replacing approximately 170 linear feet of compromised cryogenic piping insulation, which is causing operational inefficiencies, safety hazards, and equipment issues. The existing system, similar to PermAlert Ultra-FS, consists of two 7/8" copper pipes in steel containment insulated with poly-urethane foam. The contractor must provide all materials and labor to replace the piping, including expansion joints and pipe supports, while reusing existing hanger anchors. The project is to be completed during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-3:00PM) within 180 days, with a minimum one-year warranty on materials and labor. Contractors must follow security protocols, including obtaining visitor badges and restricting access to authorized areas.

Project USDA, Eastern Regional Research Center, Wyndmoor, PA Liquid Nitrogen Delivery System Repair
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
ERRC requires repairs to its Liquid Nitrogen Delivery System. Piping insulation servicing the filling station is compromised causing losses greatly reducing efficiency and increasing operational cost. Icing extending to walking surfaces creates a safety hazard. Icing caused by the failed insulation is freezing up the emergency shut-off control valves as well. The existing system similar to PermAlert Ultra-FS in comprised of two 7/8” copper pipes in steel containment insulated with poly-urethane foam and sealed to prevent corrosion. The work required includes provision and installation of approximately 170 linear feet of insulated cryogenic piping in kind with existing.
2.0 Background
The Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC) is one of four Regional Research Centers of the Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. The ERRC is home to the nation’s leading scientists and engineers who solve problems facing the U.S. today and tomorrow with fundamental, applied, and developmental research on agricultural commodities.
Most of this research is conducted in the main building within two laboratory wings. The original building was constructed in 1940. Due to continuous upgrades and renovations, ERRC is very modern with respect to laboratory design and system condition.
