About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics specification dated 20 August 2025 for an integrated radar and camera surveillance system to be installed at Eglin AFB and Duke Field. The system comprises Bird Detection Radar (BDR), Drone Detection Radar (DDR), Maritime Surveillance Radar (MSR), and an Electro-Optical Infrared (EO/IR) Camera System with comprehensive detection capabilities for birds, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and maritime targets. Key technical specifications include solid-state 2D/3D S-band Doppler radars with 360-degree azimuth coverage, ranges between 3-8 nautical miles, and altitude coverage from 0-5,000 feet AGL, along with remote-controlled EO/IR cameras operable in precipitation and freezing conditions.
The system requires a closed network installation within 120 days of contract award, with user-defined access permissions, data storage for 5+ years, and contractor-provided training. Specific radar capabilities include displaying identification and location information for UAS and marine vessels, with the ability to detect both broadcasting and non-broadcasting targets. Additional features include a color-coded avian risk display, aural and visual alerts, at least 10 monitors with 720p resolution, marine-grade corrosion-resistant hardware, 2-hour power backup, and compliance with data accessibility principles. The system is designed to provide comprehensive surveillance and risk assessment across multiple detection domains.
