About this file
This is a technical specification document for a 20-foot flatbed trailer required by the United States Forest Service (USFS). The trailer is intended for use by Shasta Trinity National Forest and must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including ANSI standards and DOT requirements.
The trailer specifications detail comprehensive construction requirements including a welded steel frame with specific dimensional tolerances, a 20-foot by 8-foot 6-inch deck capable of supporting a 30,000-pound payload, and pneumatic brakes with electric controls. Key components include dual rear axles rated at 17,500 pounds each, 16-ply or equivalent tires, LED lighting systems, a 2.5/8-inch coupler, and a GVW rating of 38,000 pounds. The trailer must be painted with USFS-specified colors and include required safety equipment such as DOT-compliant lighting, reflectors, and identification markings. Construction materials must utilize structural steel meeting ASTM standards, with welds inspected for quality assurance. The document specifies detailed measurements for deck height, side rails, tie-down points, and jack equipment, ensuring the trailer meets both commercial standards and USFS operational requirements for forest management activities.
