About this file

This document is an attachment for a Non-Native Invasive Plant Treatment contract for the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The detailed table provides specific treatment requirements for multiple districts (MARN and BRAD), covering approximately 633 acres of invasive plant management across various forest areas, roads, motorized trails, and developed administration zones. Treatment methods include both manual foliar and woody plant treatments targeting species like Japanese barberry, multiflora rose, stiltgrass, honeysuckle, and black locust, using glyphosate herbicide mix with different application techniques such as cut-stump treatments and foliar spraying.

The treatment areas are divided into multiple units with varying infestation levels (low to high), ranging from forested areas along non-motorized trails and streams to openings/fields and roadside zones. Treatment windows are primarily June-July with specific instructions for each unit, including cautions about nearby structures, potential wildlife habitats, and access considerations. Vehicle access is permitted using trucks, UTVs, ATVs, and rubber-tired tractors, with some areas requiring a Forest Service gate key. Additional notes highlight environmental considerations like avoiding bat roost sites and recommending tick repellent in high-density tick areas.

Treat ALL vegetation growing around the base of the barn and along the base of the barn chain link perimeter fence (inside and out). Treat all NNIP target species within entire polygon identified on map. Key areas within polygon needing thorough treatment of NNIP will be the area around barn, gravel parking area, area below gravel parking area, driveway into parking area, post and rail fence, interpretative signs, and the US Forest Service Hall Barn sign at the entrance of driveway and SR62. Work will involve a combination of cut-stump treatments and foliar spraying. Moderate to High infestation. Majority of work will involve broadcast and foliar spraying of Multiflora Rose and Thistle. UTV, ATV, or rubber-tired tractor use is authorized for accomplishing work.

Use caution while working around the SE corner of the barn, bees exit and enter through hole located on the side of the barn. Forest Service gate key will be needed to access the inside of the barn perimeter fence

Beanfields, Unit 2B

Primary work to be accomplished involves cut-stump treatments of Black Locust. Size of the target trees within the Unit mostly range from .5” to 2” diameter with a few larger trees within the NE section of the Unit. Treatment entails cutting of stems at ground level and applying a 50-100% glyphosate solution to the cambium layer (outer-most) growing layer of the cut-stem. All trees can be felled and left on site adjacent to their treated stump. Please remove any felled trees from existing mowing lanes. If there are locust that are too small for cut-stump, stem diameter at ground-level < 1 inch, foliar spray the plant with glyphosate, surfactant, and dye solution. If there are other target NNIP species within the treatment polygon – either cut-stem or foliar spray them as appropriate to their growth habit as per contract specifications. Good accessibility throughout fields with UTV, ATV, Rubber-Tired Tractor, or Truck. Forest Service gate key will be needed to gain access through gate located at the entrance of the Field Area at SR3022 and FR201. Tick repellant highly recommended while working within this area as due to high tick density throughout the year

Beanfields, Unit 3

Treat all NNIP target species within entire polygon identified on map. Unit will be broadcast burned during planned Spring 2025 prescribed burn. Low to Moderate infestation. Cut-stump treat or foliar spray all live Black Locust within Unit. Treatment will entail the cutting of stems of existing live trees > 1 inch diameter at ground level and applying a 50- 100% herbicide solution to the cambium layer (outer-most). All trees can be felled and left on site adjacent to their treated stump. Please remove any felled trees from existing mowing lanes. If there are locust that are too small for cut-stump, stem diameter at ground-level < 1 inch, foliar spray the plant with a glyphosate, surfactant, and dye solution. Low probability of live trees due to planned Spring 2025 prescribed burning of Unit. Truck access to opening along existing two-track road located along East side of the fields is good. Good access around entire perimeter of Unit with Truck, UTV, ATV, or rubber-tired tractor. Forest Service gate key will be needed to gain access through gate located at the entrance of the Field Area at SR3022 and FR201. Treat all NNIP target species within entire polygon identified on map. Work will mostly involve treatment of Multiflora Rose sprouts under top killed plants from Spring 2025 prescribed burning of Unit.

Low to Moderate infestation. Cut-stump treat or foliar spray all live Black Locust within Unit.

Treatment will entail the cutting of stems of existing live trees > 1 inch diameter at ground level and applying a 50-100% herbicide solution to the cambium layer (outer-most).

Tick repellant highly recommended while working within this area as it is one of high tick density throughout the year.

Treat all NNIP target species within all treatment areas identified on the included map, with the exception of plants touching existing structures.

Plants touching existing structures are to be avoided due to the majority of the structures being utilized by bats as roost sites during the time of project implementation. Treat both linear strips along the road sections extending out from the East and West sides of the larger treatment area. Treat all NNIS target species 50 ft. from the center line of the road on both sides of the road sections. Majority of work will involve foliar spraying of Multiflora Rose. High Infestation. Good truck access. UTV, ATV, and Rubber-tired tractor are authorized for use in accomplishing work. Forest Service gate key will be needed at entrance of FR292 to access treatment
