Specifications for (1721) Medium CNC Lathe
Provide all materials, labor, and equipment necessary to provide a new fully functional Medium CNC Lathe.
Refurbished or remanufactured parts are not authorized for this requirement.
Machine construction o Base, Bed and Headstock shall be Meehanite Cast Iron.
o Slant Bed style to aid in coolant and chip fall.
o Protective covers on all guideways.
o Internal chip conveyor and coolant tank.
o Hardened and ground box ways on X and Z Axis.
X and Z axis box ways must be scraped o Mist collector o Removal Turn Through Steady Rest - manually positioned base via manual connection to the carriage and then M code control of the open and close function.
Min 8”/ Max 16” diameter o Programmable Tailstock o X, Y, & Z Axis shall have hand scraped mounting brackets for ball screws and lead screw brackets.
Main Spindle and Headstock Specification o Variable speed, 30 to 3000 RPM Range with adequate precision high speed bearings.
o Through spindle shall accept up to a 4” bar capacity.
o Standard chuck size 12” minimum.
o Spindle motor shall be 30HP continuous.
o Minimum weight without tailstock 1500lbs.
Turret o Minimum 12 station 24 position indexing.
o Milling tool spindle drive motor 5HP continuous
Controls o Spindle, Feed, and rapid traverse override.
o Manufacturers latest version with 10” minimum Color LCD.
o Controls cabinet shall be cooled.
o Minimum 2MB Memory.
o DNC Capability o Programming should be compatible with Windows based operating systems.
o Controls equipped with conversational programming capability.
o Helical cutting for X, C & Z Axis.
o AC Digital Servo & Spindle Drivers.
o High Speed Machining Capability o Data Server 256MB (DNC) min.
o Remove / Disconnect Wi-Fi.
o Ethernet Connectivity o Negative and positive tool radius compensation.
General o Maximum Swing over bed shall be at least 25”.
o Maximum Turning diameter shall be at least 15”.
o Turning length shall be 40” minimum.
o Auto Lubrication system.
o Internal coolant tank o High Pressure Coolant o Chip removal conveyor o Tool Setter o Y Axis with Live Tooling
Accuracy o Positioning accuracy X Axis shall be maximum .0005”/4”.
o Positioning accuracy Z Axis shall be maximum .0007”/12”.
o Repeatability for X Axis shall be +/- .00015” o Repeatability for Z Axis shall be +/- .00020”
Contractor shall provide:
o Include lifting, leveling, and floor attachment hardware.
o Machine shall be built to NFPA 70 and operate with AEDC power system which is 480V, 3PH, 60HZ or quote package should include step down transformer to machine operation voltage.
o Standard tooling package of turret tool holders, Boring bar holders (1” thru 2”) and live tooling
(two Radial and two axial) applicable for this machine. To include Kennametal Tool Voucher of $10,000.
o Operating Manual, Electrical Manual, mechanical Manual, & Schematics o Provide name and phone number of up to 3 facilities presently using this machine.
o Post Processor for Esprit CAM software, or Espirit Voucher. NAS is a current user.
o When quoting, provide floor plan and foundation requirements.
Verification o After delivery the Contractor shall test run the machine at the site in accordance with functional tests for accuracy required by ISO/ANSI Standards.
Warranty o This machine shall be warranted against any defects in material, parts, and workmanship for 24 months after the date of installation. The control, servomotors and main spindle motor are warranted against defects in material, parts, and workmanship for 24 months after the date of installation.
Maintenance, Parts and Service o The Contractor shall have the capability to service the equipment (labor and parts) beyond the warranty period, or the equipment shall be able to be serviced by a local qualified representative.
The Contractor or representative shall be capable of responding to a repair service call on-site within 36 hours and repair parts delivery within 48 hours after placement of order.
o Vendor to provide service technician locations. Minimum of 2 certified service techs within a 100-mile radius of AEDC required.
o Please provide replacement part warehouse location(s) and availability. Must have minimum of one location in the continental US.
o Must have local and/or onsite training options for continuing education.
Installation/Training o Installation will be at the Arnold Air Force Base, TN; Arnold Engineering Development
Complex’s Model Shop, West Shop, Building 451. Installation of the machine shall be accomplished by Model Shop personnel and supervised by factory trained servicemen. This service shall be included in machine cost. Installation kit is to be provided in machine cost.
Three-day initial training on machine features and operation shall be done beginning at machine startup following machine installation and should be included in machine cost. Additional support required as needed.
