About this file
These specifications outline a federal procurement for 24 calves for the USDA-ARS Knipling-Bushland U.S. Livestock Insect Research Laboratory in Kerrville, Texas. The technical requirements specify that the calves must be Hereford (or Black Angus/Charolais if Hereford are unavailable), weighing 300-450 lbs, aged 6-24 months, and be heifers or steers. Additional critical requirements include no prior exposure to cattle fever ticks, sourcing from within a 60-mile radius of Kerrville, and being healthy with no signs of disease. The government will personally inspect and select the animals at the origin facility and handle transportation to the research laboratory, with all animals to be delivered by 03/30/2026.
