About this file
This is a Special Packaging Instruction (Form DD 1813-81) that specifies the packaging and preservation requirements for a Mount, Tripod, Machine Gun (National Stock No. 1005-01-586-5702, Part No. 13046100). The document applies to all suppliers and contractors furnishing this item and establishes the military preservation standard as MIL-STD-2073-1, Method 33.
The packaging instructions require wrapping the tripod feet and spades with cushioning material secured with tape, inserting a foam kingpin plug into the kingpin opening, placing the tripod in a sealed bag, then into a fiberboard box with internal blocking and bracing to restrict movement. The box must include a technical manual (TM 9-1005-437-13&P) in a separate sealed bag. Materials specified include lubricating oil (MIL-PRF-3150), approved cushioning per PPP-C-795, A-A-3129, or PPP-C-1797, a kingpin plug per A-A-59136, a polyester bag per MIL-DTL-22020 (55.0" x 18.0"), and double-wall fiberboard boxes meeting ASTM D5118/D5118M with internal dimensions of 47.50" x 15.75" x 8.50". All wood packaging materials must comply with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 15 requirements and be heat-treated certified. Unitization requires palletizing 15 containers per 48 x 48 heat-treated wood pallet secured with stretch wrap or strapping per MIL-STD-147. Containers must be marked with "REUSABLE PACKAGING—DO NOT DESTROY" and "TO OPEN—CUT TAPE ONLY ALONG TOP TAPE SEAMS" in minimum one-half inch text. Contractors must also comply with DFARS 252.211-7006 regarding passive radio frequency identification.
