About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for procuring an electronic nose flash gas chromatographer (GC) analyzer to be used for evaluating aroma profiles of dry bean and pulse flour samples. The analyzer must have capabilities such as liquid and headspace injection, fast analysis time, and software for data processing and reporting.

The related federal contract opportunity is a combined synopsis/solicitation (Solicitation Number 12805B24Q0544) issued by the USDA Agricultural Research Service for the electronic nose flash GC analyzer. The government intends to award a firm fixed price purchase order to the responsible offeror whose quote conforms to the specifications and is the most advantageous considering technical acceptance, past performance, and price. Quotes are due by August 16, 10:00am Central Time, and must address all RFQ requirements and have an active SAM.gov registration.

Statement of Work (SOW) Project: Electronic Nose Flash gas chromatographer (GC) analyzer

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work: Purpose is to procure an electronic nose flash gas chromatographer (GC) to be used to evaluate aroma profiles of dry beans and other pulses. The equipment should be able to quickly and accurately conduct sensory and chemical analysis of flour samples to differentiate sensory profiles.

2.0 Background: SBRU conducts plant genetics and food processing research on using dry beans and other pulses as flours. Flour aroma is an important consideration since pulses often have strong beany or vegetative aromas that limit consumer appeal. A method is needed to quickly assess aroma profiles of pulse flour and food product samples. The method should be high throughput with the ability to evaluate thousands of samples per year. The method should be amenable to use as a screening tool in pulse breeding to identify germplasm with acceptable aroma profiles.
