About this file

This is a bid specification document from the State of California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) for hospital beds and mattresses to be used at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville. The specification details requirements for hospital beds that must include headboard, platform, footboard, and rails, with specific dimensions including a 35-inch sleep deck width, 40-inch bed width, and expandable length from 84 to 105 inches. The beds must feature electric power (120 VAC, 60 Hz, 15A) with battery backup, a safe working load of 550 pounds, integrated patient scale, staff and patient controls, and various positioning capabilities including Trendelenburg angles. Additional requirements include nurse call interface, bed exit alarm system, and compatibility with Ascom communication systems.

The specification outlines requirements for two types of mattresses: specialty and regular. Both types must be 35-36 inches wide with lengths compatible with the bed deck, and must support up to 500 pounds. The specialty mattress can be powered by the bed or separate outlet and requires a thickness of 6-8 inches, while the regular mattress is non-powered with a 6-inch thickness. Both mattress types must comply with federal flammability standards (16 CFR Parts 1632 and 1633) and feature high-density foam, viscoelastic foam, or gel support toppers with nylon or polyurethane covers.
