Text version

The USDA, ARS, Northwest Irrigation and Soils Research Unit, Kimberly, ID requires the following specified components for a research plot combine.

1) Ability to harvest grain for a variety of crops including wheat, barley, dry bean and corn.

2) Grain weigh system to include moisture and weights at the plot level or continuous harvesting for larger plot areas. Includes ability to collect a subsample of grain. System will be accessible by the bagging person in the second seat of the combine cab and include tablet and software that is readable within the combine and shows items such as current plot, grain and straw weight, grain moisture, etc.

3) Includes a straw collection and weigh system that collects all material discharged from the rear of the combine without chopping the material. The system will have an integrated weigh system that is readable within the combine cab and can be zeroed from the weighing system display. System will include a mechanical unload system (e.g., hydraulic or conveyor) that can be used to collect and transfer straw out of individual plots. Entire unit should be easily removable.

4) A diesel engine with at least 65 horsepower that is easily accessible for maintenance.

5) For storage and transport compatibility with current facilities and equipment, combine overall height should be less 10.5 ft, overall width less than 6 ft, and wheelbase of 8.5 feet or less. Gross weight must be less 8000 lbs.

6) A hydrostatic with a minimum of two speed ranges. Maximum speed of at least 10 mph.

7) Tires not tracks.

8) Appropriate tie-down on the combine for ability to transport on a trailer.

9) An enclosed air-conditioned two-person cab with dust filter, seats for driver and passenger, brake systems, and hydraulic steering. An integrated camera system to view grain and straw weighing system. Cabin should include necessary safety features such as a fire extinguisher, emergency cutoff switch, and should meet OSHA 1928 safety criteria for roll-overprotective structures.

10) Threshing cylinder and matched concave that are adjustable for small-grain, dry bean, and corn.

Cylinder speed and concave adjustment available from within the cabin.

11) Grain separation that includes a sieve/shaker system and cleaning fan with easy adjustment. Sieves and shaker should be easily accessible and detachable for quick cleanout. Appropriate sieves are required for small-grain, dry bean and corn. System should include deawning bars sufficient to produce clean barley seed.

12) Include a small grain header, approximately 5 ft wide, to harvest standing grain crops, such as wheat and barley, and a windrow pickup header, approximately 5 ft wide, to harvest crops in a windrow such as dry bean.

13) Combine must have an interchangeable corn header available.

14) Small grain header will include adjustable speed cutting bar, air injection blow-out system, hydraulic drive reel, horizontal reel adjustment, crop lifters for lodged crops, row dividers, floating/skid plates, brush/rubber on reel, external dividers to ensure accurate row sampling, and low knives to allow low cutting height, and corn header for two rows with 30-inch row spacing.

15) Grain tank with at least 20 bushel capacity. Grain tank must be easily accessible via a ladder and platform.

16) Manual, parts catalog, schedules, etc. for the system.

17) Engine and other parts should be readily available from either local sources or from the manufacture with minimal delay.

18) In-person training is required for both the plot combine and for the combine weigh system.

Separate training is required for the weigh system and integrated software.

19) Delivery to USDA-ARS NWISRL Kimberly, Idaho.
