General Information and Requirements SECTION MT-01009 Mobilization SECTION MT-01505 Crushed Aggregate Base Course SECTION MT-02233 Watering SECTION MT-02201

1.02 DEFINITIONS

A. Smoothing is dragging the grader blade across the road to level the surface and drag excess material away. Smoothing does not cut the surface crust.

B. Reshaping the road surface requires cutting through the crust to remove potholes, washboards, and ruts. The material is mixed to provide a blend of different size aggregates, and distributed across the roadway.

C. Scarifying is breaking up the old surface crust, using the ripper teeth of the grader.

D. Processing is mixing the aggregate material to incorporate or remove moisture and blend the various sizes of material.

E. Spreading is evenly distributing the new crushed aggregate base course across the roadway at a depth in accordance with the typical section and drawings.

F. Compacting the new crushed aggregate base course involves using equipment and machinery to compress the aggregate in the roadway until it reaches a density value a minimum of 95% its theoretical maximum density at a moisture content within 3% of optimum.

1.03 PROJECT CONDITIONS:

A. Moisture Conditions: Whenever the Contractor or the Contracting Officer determines that the moisture conditions prevent obtaining a satisfactory job, work will stop and will not be resumed until moisture conditions are favorable, or until the Contracting Officer requests watering of the road to achieve appropriate moisture conditions.

Measurement and payment for Watering directed by the Contracting

MT-02233-2

Officer shall be per SECTION MT-02201. This requirement may be waived when the Contracting Officer requests grading be done by a specified date.
