Attachment 1 – Specifications
Fiberglass Swine
Fiberglass Swine model must resemble 90-100lbs pig and have similar characteristics to a Yorkshire breed. The pig’s posture must have a straight back, all four legs planted on the ground. The head must be looking straight forward, head lifted about 65 degrees exposing neck for practicing blood collections from the jugular vein and vena cava. Mouth must be slightly opened about ½” to slide a wire snare around the maxilla and behind the canines to simulate restraining a pig. The fiberglass swine model will then be molded and casted into a swine to practice blood collections. The Fiberglass swine model must be hollow and light weight for ease of moving.
Custom Synthetic gel block
The custom gel blocks must be synthetic gel, like Perma gel blocks, due to long preservation and its ability to seal gel cuts or lacerations using a heat gun. This should allow multiple needle sticks without fake blood dripping out. The gel block must be no more than 9”x 4” x 4” to fit in and take out of a swine casting. Preferably the gel block can be clear or translucent. Within the gel block, there must be tubes that resemble anatomically accurate vessels- Jugular vein (external and internal), Cranial Vena Cava and Right Brachiocephalic vein. All vessels must be as closely accurate in diameter and depth below the “skin” (gel). Reference- jugular vein is 3-6cm below the “skin” and the diameter of the vein is 5-6mm. At the base of the gel block, close to the vena cava a removable tube needs to be connected to the gel block feeding fake blood from a pressurized container into the vessels. At the top of the gel block at the top of the jugular vein an air valve must be attached to the vessel to allow any trapped air to escape. Both air valve and tube at either ends of the gel block cannot be visible when placed in the swine casting.
