SOW/SPECIFICATIONS FOR INSTALLING A NEW DOMESTIC WATER SUPPLY LINE

USDA-ARS, NORTHERN GREAT PLAINS RESEARCH LAB

LOCATION OF WORK: The Main Complex

SCOPE OF WORK: Bore and install a new 2” and 1” domestic water line that is needed for the Northern Great Plains Research Lab. All labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, and supervision necessary must be provided by the contractor. All private and public utilities must be located by contractor. Any/and all damage done to any utilities is to be the responsibility/liability of the contractor to replace and/or repair to the original condition. A site visit is recommended.

MATERIALS/INSTALLATION:

1. Approximately 250 ft. of 2” and Approximately 50 ft. of 1” water line must be bored from existing water supply main line under existing pavement, sod, and building footings into building #4 and building #10.

2. Water line must be ridged type 2” Yelomine PVC 250psi water pipe designed for underground application boring. Transition water line into the buildings must be 1” poly SIDR7 250psi.

3. Water line must be installed minimum of 8 ft. below ground.

4. The contractor will need to square-off and cut the required concrete inside the building room to be able to bore inside and connect the new water line with the existing copper supply water line. It is the contractor’s responsibility to make the connections to the existing copper water supply line for the building. The concrete will be removed from site and new concrete must be poured and finished to match the existing floor after the water line is installed, connected, pressurized, and tested. The new water line coming through the floor must be sleeved to protect and insulate it.

5. The contractor will install and connect the water line to the existing water supply line inside the building with new 1” Apollo valve and ensure that it is grounded. The new water line coming through the floor must be sleeved to protect and insulate it.

6. Water line must be connected to existing 2” water main outside the building at the main water line valve site underground.

7. The contractor will need to cut and remove from site the required amount of asphalt from the roadway in-order to dig up and replace the existing water line and valves that connect it with the new water line.

8. The contractor will install two (2) new 2” Gate valves and boxes must be installed for the new water line coming off the existing 6” water main valve. The contractor will install two (2) new 1” saddles with corps and curb stop shut off valves and boxes. The old valves removed, and new valves installed and connected with the new water line.

9. Any other corps or connections that are required for hookup at the existing water main is to be compatible with the existing piping is the responsibility of the contractor to provide and install.

10. The contractor will install the new curb stop risers for the valves and must be installed to be flush with the finished asphalt.

11. After repair and replacement work is completed the contractor must thoroughly compact soils before applying/patching asphalt were digging had taken place. The asphalt patch applied must be compacted to asphalt industry standards and the finish asphalt must be 4” thick and match existing surrounding asphalt elevations.

12. All hardware used for connections must be brass or stainless steel and acceptable for underground connections according to industry standards for potable water. Any other hardware if so required to be used for connections must be for potable water.

13. All trenches and bore pits must be backfilled, compacted, and returned to original grade and condition to the satisfaction of the COR.

16.All damage to existing concrete or asphalt must be removed and re-poured or asphalt must be patched by contractor to COR approval.

17. Two (2) new curb boxes and shut off valves must be installed in designated locations.

18.Contractor shall ensure that there are no leaks and installation has been pressurized, tested, and is fully operational before job will be considered complete.

19. All private and public utilities must be located by contractor and any/and all damage done to any utilities is to be the responsibility/liability of the contractor to replace and/or repair to the original condition.

20.The contractor shall be responsible for all health and safety equipment and any other measures that may be required for a safe work environment for all parties involved.

This is an urgent requirement. The contractor must start immediately after award and complete the project within 7 business days.
