About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details cryopreservation services for Atlantic salmon and lumpfish sperm by the USDA Agricultural Research Service National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center. The contract requires preserving 60 Atlantic salmon sperm samples from October to December, with 4 packs per fish capable of fertilizing 5,000 eggs each, and 60 lumpfish sperm samples from March to May, with 5 straws per fish capable of fertilizing 200 eggs per straw. The performance period includes a base year and 4 option years through 2029, with samples to be stored at the vendor's location prior to shipment to the Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research facility in Fort Collins, CO.
The center requires a product that can preserve milt viability for up to 2 weeks when stored at 4°C, with milt collected every 2 weeks, and a product that increases egg fertilization when used weekly. The vendor must supply products equivalent to industry standards and provide a detailed report for each sample, including sperm concentration, motility, and contamination data. All packs and straws must be individually labeled for identification, with the lumpfish sperm cryopreservation to be conducted for only a single year of the contract period.

SOW -- Atlantic salmon and lumpfish sperm cryopreservation services Performance Period:
The overall performance period will be a base year, with 4 option years (through 2029).
Statement of Work:
The USDA Agricultural Research Service National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center requires cryopreservation of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) sperm. The cryopreserved sperm will be stored at the USDA Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research facility in Fort Collins, CO.
Specifications:
Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) sperm will be supplied by the National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center. The preserved Atlantic salmon sperm should be stored in four packs capable of fertilizing 5000 eggs each. The center needs to be able to preserve up to 60 fish each year with spawning occurring in October, November, and December. The cryopreserved sperm will need to be stored by the provider until it can be shipped to the ARS facility in Fort Collins, CO (Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research unit). A report will be supplied containing quantification of sperm concentration, motility, and contamination to the National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center. The report will also contain the information that will allow the identification of the packs and straws to specific samples.
Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) sperm will be stored in five straws with spawning occurring March to May. The cryopreserved sperm will need to be stored by the provider until it can be shipped to the ARS facility in Fort Collins, CO. A report will be supplied containing quantification of sperm concentration, motility, and contamination to the National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center. The report will also contain the information that will allow the identification of the packs and straws to specific samples.
Lumpfish sperm cryopreservation will be done for only for a single year.
The center requires a product that can preserve milt viability for up to 2 weeks when stored at 4°C with milt being collected every 2 weeks (total of 12 weeks or 6 units). A product that increases fertilization of eggs when fertilized with the preserved milt that will be made weekly (10 units). The vendor shall supply products equivalent to what industry uses.
Summary of Specifications:
• Cryopreserving 60 Atlantic salmon sperm samples (Usually from October to December) o 4 packs per fish capable of fertilizing 5000 eggs per pack
• Cryopreserving 60 Lumpfish sperm samples (Usually from March to May) o 5 straws per fish capable of fertilizing 200 eggs per straw
• Samples will be stored at vendor’s location prior to shipment to the ARS facility in Fort Collins, CO (Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research unit). The vendor will arrange shipment with the Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research Unit.
• A report will be supplied containing quantification of sperm concentration, motility, and contamination for all the samples.
• All packs and straws will be individually labeled for identification.
