About this file

This is a Project Manual for the Sullivan Creek National Fish Hatchery, issued by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Midwest Region, detailing a construction project for an influent pump sand trap. The project involves installing a precast concrete sand trap structure next to Sullivan Creek to address sand build-up in the 8" gravity influent pipe. Key work elements include: 1) constructing and installing the precast concrete sand trap, which involves modifying the existing sheet pile retaining wall, building a cofferdam for dewatering, and connecting new piping; 2) removing and replacing the existing 2" water line that runs underground from the egg building to the creek, which requires repairing asphalt and finish grading; and 3) installing new electrical conduit, wire, and receptacles for portable pumps. The project will be paid on a lump sum basis and is located at the Sullivan Creek National Fish Hatchery near Brimley, Michigan.

Each contractor/subcontractor must initiate and maintain an effective safety program that provides adequate systematic policies, procedures, and practices to protect their employees from, and allow them to recognize, job-related safety and health hazards. The program must include provisions for the systematic identification, evaluation, and prevention/control of general work s ite hazards, specific job hazards, and potential hazards that may arise from foreseeable conditions, as well as providing a competent person to conduct frequent and regular inspections. The contractor must instruct each employee to recognize and avoid unsafe conditions and the regulations applicable to the work environm ent.

The contractor will address the following items prior to and/or during the Preconstruction Conference (the Contracting
