Kitchen Fire Cleaning
Cleaning up after a kitchen fire in a residential housing unit that was extinguished with an ABC fire extinguisher.
This requirement involves several important steps to ensure tenant safety and thoroughness.
1. Assessment and Safety Precautions:
o Assess the extent of fire damage, clean all surfaces, and ensure the area is safe to enter for tenants.
o Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, eye protection, and a respirator, due to significant smoke damage and ABC fire extinguisher residue.
2. Ventilation:
o Open windows and doors to ventilate the area and allow smoke and fumes to dissipate.
3. Removal of Fire Extinguisher Residue:
o HEPA Vacuum up any remaining dry chemical powder from the ABC fire extinguisher.
Dispose of it according to local regulations.
4. Cleaning Surfaces:
o Clean all surfaces affected by fire and extinguisher residue, including countertops, walls, cabinets, appliances, HVAC duct work and all personal items.
o Use a mild detergent and warm water to scrub all surfaces thoroughly.
o For smoke residue, consider using a specialized cleaner recommended for fire extinguisher cleanup.
o Using an ozone air treatment system can be an effective method for neutralizing odors and purifying the air after a kitchen fire, especially when dealing with lingering smoke odors.
o Encapsulate all smoke damage painted surfaces and repaint in-kind color (White)
5. Avoid Spreading Dust:
o Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter for initial dust removal rather than sweeping, which can stir up dust.
6. Dry Dusting:
Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to clean up as much of the dust as possible from surfaces. Avoid using a regular vacuum, as it might not be effective at containing fine particles.
7. Surface Wiping:
o After vacuuming, wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth or a microfiber cloth to remove any remaining dust. This includes countertops, shelves, and other flat surfaces.
Steps involved in using an ozone air treatment system:
1. Safety Precautions:
o Before using an ozone generator, ensure the area is evacuated of people, pets, and plants as ozone can be harmful to living organisms.
o Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and a respirator, when handling ozone-generating equipment.
2. Operation:
o Follow the manufacturer's instructions for operating the ozone generator. This typically involves setting the timer based on the size of the room and the severity of odors.
o Ozone generators usually operate for a specific duration (e.g., several hours) to achieve effective air purification.
3. Ventilation:
o After the ozone treatment cycle is complete, ventilate the area thoroughly. Open windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate and help dissipate any residual ozone.
4. Monitoring:
o Use an ozone meter (if available) to measure ozone levels and ensure they have returned to safe levels before re-entering the treated area.
5. Caution:
o Avoid prolonged exposure to ozone, as it can irritate the respiratory system and be harmful to materials such as rubber and certain plastics.
6. Repeat if Necessary:
o Depending on the severity of odors, the awarded company may need to repeat the ozone treatment process to achieve satisfactory results.
7. Post-Treatment Cleanup:
o After completing ozone treatment and ensuring safe ozone levels, continue with any remaining cleanup tasks such as wiping down surfaces and laundering fabrics to remove residual odors and contaminants.
8. Safety Note:
o Ozone generators should be used with caution and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines to avoid health risks and damage to materials.
Using an ozone air treatment system can significantly aid in eliminating persistent smoke odors after a kitchen fire.
8. Odor Control:
o Address any lingering smoke odors by ventilating the area further and using odor-neutralizing agents if necessary.
o Fabric items like curtains, towels, or cloth furniture may need washing or professional cleaning.
9. Inspection and Restoration:
o Inspect electrical appliances and outlets for damage before use.
o Check plumbing fixtures and pipes for any damage caused by the fire or firefighting efforts.
10. Documentation:
o Keep records of the cleanup process, including photos of the damage and receipts for any cleaning supplies or services used.
11. Site visit.
o Site visit is highly recommended, the location of the housing units located in
Lower Mammoth . 107 Pinyon Terrace Mammoth WY 82190
12. Period of Performance:
o 30 days after Notice to Proceed
