1.1 BACKGROUND

The NAVAIR Sustainment Group, Additive Manufacturing (AM) Integrated Product Team (IPT) has developed and proven AM capability as a viable means to enhance supply system response time to the warfighter. Additionally, AM provides an enabling capability to increase current readiness, expeditiously respond to emerging combatant commander threat requirements, and become an increasingly integral part of initial production by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). As the AM capability continues to mature, the industrial process will become a driver for cost reduction operational support costs over the life cycle weapon systems and support equipment.
