About this file
This Statement of Need (SON) details requirements for an AGE Shop Space Saver System for MacDill Air Force Base. The system is a custom shelving solution designed for Production Support, featuring a desk and 20 shelves within a 23'11½" wide x 8'4¼" tall footprint. The shelving configuration includes 14 shelves measuring 48" x 12", 2 shelves at 48" x 18", and 4 shelves at 42" x 12", incorporating three shelf types (static, storage, and mobile) to maximize organization of Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) assets, tools, and parts.
The procurement is necessitated by hurricane damage to the previous storage system and upcoming renovations of Building 552. The system will be shipped to 7409 Hanger Loop Drive in Tampa, Florida, with installation deferred to a later date. Critical terms and conditions focus on water damage mitigation, requiring replacement of electrical components (logic boards, safety systems, motors, wiring harnesses) and mechanical components (rails, wheels) exposed to water, as well as inspection and potential replacement of safety mechanisms like levers, cables, and brake assemblies to ensure safe system operation.

AGE Shop Space Saver System
Statement of Need (SON)
29 Aug 2025
1. Requirement: The AGE Space Saver System is crucial for storing Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) assets supporting various missions at MacDill Air Force Base. These assets, including tools and parts essential for AGE inspections and repairs, require organized and secure storage. Due to hurricane damage sustained by the previous system, and the upcoming renovation of Building 552 (where it's currently located), a replacement system needs to be procured and installed.
2. Characteristics: This space-saving system, designed for Production Support, includes a desk and 20 shelves within an overall footprint of 23'11 ½" wide x 8'4 ¼" tall. The system utilizes a turn style handle for access and features a mix of shelf sizes and types to maximize storage capacity. The shelves consist of 14 shelves measuring 48" x 12", 2 shelves measuring 48" x 18", and 4 shelves measuring 42" x 12". Three distinct shelf types—static, storage, and mobile—are incorporated to optimize organization.

3. Inherent Services: Following procurement, the system will be securely stored pending facility renovations. Installation is deferred to a later date.
4. Delivery: The items will be shipped to 7409 Hanger Loop Drive, Tampa, Florida.
5. Terms and Conditions: The following items are the only listed terms and conditions that are tied to the product. These are all related to water damage.
6. Electrical Components:
All electrical components exposed to water, including logic boards, safety systems, motors, and associated wiring harnesses, must be replaced. Water exposure can lead to moisture damage, corrosion, and electrical shorts. Please note that logic boxes are not water-sealed, making all internal controls vulnerable to water exposure.
7. Mechanical Components:
Any exposed rails and wheels should be promptly lubricated to prevent rust. If the wheels were submerged or subjected to spraying water, the integrity of their bearing seals is likely compromised. In such cases, the wheels must be replaced to prevent premature bearing failure.
8. Safety Mechanisms:
All mechanical safety sweeps require inspection. Levers, cables, and brake assemblies that came into contact with water must be replaced to ensure the safe operation of the system.
