About this file

The document is a detailed specification for Sat-Lite Feeds and Low Noise Blocks (LNBs)/Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) for a satellite communications system. The requirements specify compatibility with a Sat-Lite Agilis 2431 Motorized Flyaway Antenna and outline precise technical specifications for multiple frequency bands, including Ku-band (linear and circular), C-band, S-band, X-band, and Ka-band. Each frequency band has specific requirements such as frequency ranges, polarization characteristics, port configurations, and quantities needed, with a preference for vendors who can support the widest range of frequency bands at the lowest cost to the government. The document emphasizes physical compatibility, with a recommendation to purchase feeds directly from Sat-Lite to ensure proper integration, and highlights that while transmit capability is not required, it will not be viewed negatively in vendor proposals.

The technical specifications for LNBs and LNAs include minimum frequency ranges for each band, with additional requirements such as external 10 MHz reference inputs for most bands, specific input interfaces like WR112 for X-band, and a minimum gain of 50 dB for the S-band Low Noise Amplifier. The document is part of a Sources Sought pre-solicitation process for the Department of the Air Force Space Command, indicating that the government is investigating potential vendor capabilities and market interest before formally issuing a solicitation for these satellite communication system components.

Text version

Sat-Lite Feeds: Salient Characteristics 1.) Must be physically compatible with Sat-Lite Agilis 2431 Motorized Flyaway Antenna. For this reason, my initial thought is that we should buy the feeds directly from Sat-Lite, to ensure that compatibility.

2.) Frequency band support is listed below in a prioritized list with minimum frequency ranges (greater frequency range will be given preference). Preference will also be given to the vendor who can support a greater number of the following frequency bands at lowest cost to the government. Finally, transmit capability is not a requirement, though transmit capability will not be inherently detrimental to bids. Plain language: We don’t need it, but we won’t be sad if it’s there.

a. Ku-band linear polarization

i. 2 Rx port 10.7-12.75 GHz, motorized polarization drive, +- 90 degrees of polarization variability

ii. Physically compatible LNB, description below.

iii. Quantity: 2

b. C-band circular polarization

i. 2 Rx: 3.4-4.8 GHz

ii. Physically compatible LNB, description below.

iii. Quantity: 2

c. S-band circular polarization

i. 2 Rx port, approximately 2-2.5 GHz, with type-N interface.

ii. Physically compatible LNA, description below.

iii. Quantity: 1

d. X-band circular polarization

i. 2 Rx ports, 7.25-7.75 GHz

ii. Physically compatible LNB, description below

iii. Quantity: 2

e. Ka-band linear polarization

i. 2 Rx ports, 17.7-20.2 GHz, motorized polarization drive, +- 90 degrees of polarization variability

ii. Physically compatible LNB, description below.

iii. Quantity: 2

f. Ku-band circular polarization

i. 2 Rx port 10.7-12.75 GHz

ii. Physically compatible LNB, description below.

iii. Quantity: 2

LNBs and LNAs: Salient Characteristics 1.) Must be physically compatible with the above feeds.

2.) Ku-band Low Noise Block:

a. Minimum frequency range: 10.7-12.75 GHz

b. This range may be covered by multiple LOs

c. External 10 MHz reference input

3.) C-band Low Noise Block:

a. Minimum frequency range: 3.4-4.2 GHz

b. External 10 MHz reference input

4.) S-band Low Noise Amplifier:

a. Minimum frequency range: 2-2.55 GHz; preference given to wider range across S-band.

b. Minimum gain: 50 dB

5.) X-band Low Noise Block:

a. Minimum frequency range: 7.25-7.75 GHz

b. Input WR112

c. External 10 MHz reference input

6.) Ka-band Low Noise Block:

a. Minimum frequency range: 17.20-22.20 GHz

b. External 10 MHz reference input
