About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics specification for an aircraft wheel washer system to be installed at Ramstein Air Base.
The primary deliverable is the removal of an existing wheel washer and installation of a replacement unit capable of washing aluminum alloy (2014-T6) aircraft wheels measuring approximately 24.5 inches in diameter and 18 inches tall, with individual assembly weights of 165 pounds. The system must accommodate multiple wheels simultaneously and include assisted loading functionality via trolley, jib crane, conveyor, or equivalent equipment. The contractor must provide on-site installation, training, and a successful test cycle at Ramstein AB, with training potentially conducted during the test phase.
Technical specifications require a three-stage system operating at 230V-60Hz or 400V-50/60Hz with a minimum programmable temperature of 140°F and a 40 HP (30 kW) pump system featuring stainless steel shafts, fasteners, and Viton seals. The system must include a stainless steel cabinet with wetted standard components, engineered power blast manifold, auto-heated fresh water rinse, auto steam exhaust with damper, programmable 14-inch auto oil skimmer, removable internal reservoir cover, and quick-load two-station fixtures for both main and nose wheels. Additional requirements include remote grease fittings, electrical systems compliant with NFPA 79, power disconnect and hour meter, a door-frame-mounted jib crane with 1,000-pound capacity, 50 Hz upgrade compatibility with VFD drive pump, delivery to Ramstein Air Base via DAP freight, maintenance kit with brush and bearing grease, three days of on-site start-up and training (extending warranty to one year), and all required software on download and physical media.
