BACKGROUND:

C5ISC Electronics Repair Facility provides depot support for the AN/SPS-78 Radar marine surface search system installed and utilized on USCG marine vessels. As these radar systems break the fleet relies on depot support for their repairs. The RIB (Radar

Interface Board) is a component that makes up part of this radar system. The RIB is an electronics circuit card that was customized to interface with the Furuno manufactured radar systems. This card is unique and cannot not be substituted without a major under tasking in engineering, research and development. Such undertaking would impact CG marine operations for years as research and development requires major cost in investment and quality assurance acceptance. Marine surface search radar systems are a requirement on all USCG marine going vessels to sail.
