Existing conditions: A.O. Smith Model #BTP300 / 1,000,000 BTU/Hr, 300 gallon, natural gas fired hot water heater.
Total Hot water system Objective:
2.1.Meet performance requirements in-kind to existing, including hot water system equivalent to 1,000,000 BTU/Hr.
2.2. Exceed existing storage capacity of 300 to >300-gallons and 970 Gal/Hr. recovery capacity temperature rise at 100⁰F.
3. Implement a design and schedule that limits facility down time and hot water use to occupants. This can be achieved by notifying COR and/or facility manager of hot water
914 MSG / CEC
Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station
2405 Franklin Drive
Niagara Falls, New York 14304-5063 disconnect and with preconstruction planning and preparedness prior to demolition of primary (existing) unit. Provide limited engineering services as necessary to support design of the replacement system.
4. Selectively demolish, remove, and properly dispose of the existing hot water heater and associated components.
4.1. Be aware that removal and replacement of hot water tanks will require some level of dismantling and reassembly of existing mechanical room equipment to safely complete objectives.
5. Provide and install any and all necessary ancillary components such as piping, joints, valves, pipe hangars, pipe insulation, etc. and modify/add (as required) any existing gas or hot/cold water piping, venting, condensate piping, electrical or other components as needed to facilitate a complete and proper installation of the new hot water heaters.
6. Relief valves. No valves shall be installed between a relief valve and its water heater or storage tank. The P&T relief valve shall be installed where the valve actuator comes in contact with the hottest water in the heater. Whenever possible, the relief valve shall be installed directly in a tapping in the tank or heater; otherwise, the P&T valve shall be installed in the hot-water outlet piping. A vacuum relief valve shall be provided on the cold water supply line to the hot-water storage tank or water heater and mounted above and within 6 inches above the top of the tank or water heater.
7. Installation. Installation shall conform to NFPA 54. Storage water heaters that are not equipped with integral heat traps and having vertical pipe risers shall be installed with heat traps directly on both the inlet and outlet. Circulating systems need not have heat traps installed.
