About this file
This document includes a purchase description and related federal contract opportunity solicitation. The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences' 3D Tissue Bioprinting Laboratory requires the acquisition of one Regenhu 3D Bioprinting Station model R-GEN 200 or equal to increase its capabilities in developing biofabricated tissue models for various disease programs. Key characteristics of the bioprinting station include multiple printheads for dispensing cell mixtures, independent temperature control for each print head and stage, laser-based calibration systems for needles and substrates, plunger-based dispensation of cell-hydrogels, UV curing capability, bioprinter management software, and a class II biosafety cabinet. Delivery must be made within 90 days of order receipt. The solicitation was issued by the National Institutes of Health National Institute on Drug Abuse to acquire this bioprinting station in support of neuronal circuits, neuromuscular junction tissue, pain models, and other program requirements.

Purchase Description
Statement of Need and Purpose:
The requirement is for the acquisition of a 3D Bioprinting Station.
Background Information and Objective:
The 3D Tissue Bioprinting Laboratory (3DTBL) at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) is producing and using engineered tissues as physiological relevant assay platforms for predictive drugs screening. There is a need to purchase a new bioprinter which will be used to increase the capabilities of the group to develop biofabricated tissue models, including neuronal circuits of addiction and pain (HEAL program), neuromuscular junction (NMJ) tissue for muscular dystrophy-related diseases (potential application for gene therapy, like congenital myasthenic syndrome (CMS) for PaVe-GT program), and pain (HEAL program), vascularized lung models for the Antiviral Pandemic Program (APP), and tissue for the two programs funded by the
RFA-TR-21-015.
Generic Name of Product:
3D Bioprinting Station
Purchase Description:
Regenhu’s 3D Bioprinting Station model R-GEN 200 or Equal
Salient Characteristics:
• Multiple slots to enable five or more printheads to enable the dispensation cells and cell/hydrogel mixtures in different modes (e.g. pneumatic extrusion, piston based extrusion, droplet based printing) in the same run;
• Separate temperature control of the stage and each print head syringe with a range of 5C to 60C, allowing for the selection of different temperatures for each print head based on the biomaterial used for printing for each print head;
• Two laser-based calibration systems, one for the automatic needle length measurement of each printing tool which provides precise xyz position of the needles and allows repeatable positioning and alignment of multiples biomaterials (needles), and the other for substrate (or multiples substrates such as electrospinned scaffolds and membranes) height calibration, prior to dispensing, able to pre-record unlimited positions, from well-to-well, without need to homing in between dispensing from well to well (or from substrate to substrate);
• Plunger-based dispensation with 10 ml glass syringes for precise and reproducible dispensation of cell/hydrogels in wells of multi-well plate format in one syringe load;
• UV-curation capability;
• Bioprinter management software that allows to design complex architectures for engineering a wide range of tissues, and offers control on the whole biofabrication process, step-by-step monitoring, and comprehensive, real-time adaptation of bioprinting parameters to ensure high levels of print quality and repeatability in a more efficient way;
• Electrospinning and electrowriting capabilities; and
• Class II Biosafety Cabinet with a germicidal UV light
