Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs
PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The Laboratory of Brain and Cognition (LBC), Section on Learning and Plasticity (sLaP), needs to acquire a transcranial electrical stimulator to determine the causal impact of specific networks of brain areas in human behavior. The device shall also be used to target particular brain networks in support of behavioral training.
2. Background Information and Objective: The LBC/sLaP shall use a transcranial electrical stimulator to examine the causal impact of network specific neuromodulation on behavior. The LBC also conducts studies investigating the effects of training on brain plasticity. Pairing training with transcranial electrical stimulation has been demonstrated to effectively reduce training time and boost training outcomes. This system is necessary to support the research program of the LBC. The device will be supervised by Dr. Chris
Baker and Dr. Grace Edwards in the sLaP. Dr. Edwards has extensive experience with transcranial electrical stimulation and has previously performed research with transcranial electrical stimulation devices.
