About this file
This document includes an attachment describing the purchase needs and a federal contract opportunity notice. The attachment specifies the need to purchase one Amersham ImageQuant 800 Fluor Imager chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging system or equal. Key characteristics of the desired system include a large aperture camera lens for high sensitivity, ability to quickly capture weak signals to replace film development, publication-quality images, and extended dynamic range allowing simultaneous visualization of weak and strong bands without compromising quality. The system should also support multiplex fluorescence, infrared western blotting, and 96-well plate ELISA assays. A one-year warranty is required, and delivery within 30 days of award. The related federal contract opportunity from the National Institute on Drug Abuse seeks this chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging system, with responses due under simplified acquisition procedures.

FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs
PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
Chemiluminescence and Fluorescence Imaging System.
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: Majority members in our lab focus on molecular biology, biochemistry and are doing lots of experiments to detect protein regulation and protein interaction daily. We are in need of an imaging system working with multiple applications, such as ELISA, Western Blot, to detect protein levels.
2. Background Information and Objective: Our lab is mainly focus on molecular and cellular research and has a heavy need to detect protein expression using Western Blot.
Currently we’re mainly using chemiluminescence method to detect proteins with films and dark rooms. Films are expensive and the sensitivity is not good enough to detect weak protein bands. Sometimes we borrow the Western Blot Imager in our neighbor - Dr. Bonnemann’s lab to discover protein using fluorescence method. While their equipment was bought 9 years ago and getting old, we experience computer frozen and software failure, thus we would like to get a new imaging system to fulfill our daily research needs.
3. Generic Name of Product: Chemiluminescence and fluorescence imaging system.
Purchase Description: (Brand name or Equal) Amersham ImageQuant 800 Fluor Imager
4. Salient characteristics.
• Camera lens has the largest aperture, makes this imager the most sensitive one of its kind in the market.
• Capture images quickly and effectively. It has the ability to collect even weak chemiluminescent signals and therefore a viable replacement to the dark room and X ray film developer.
• Image captured is publication quality (317dpi) and the dynamic range of the digitized image is far superior to that attained with film;
• With the novel and unique SNOW detection technology, it enables significant extension of the dynamic range, allowing for weak bands to be visualized and quantitated together with the strong bands without compromising quality.
• In addition to chemiluminescence, the IQ800Fluor system is also enable multiplex fluorescence, infrared WB and 96 well plate ELISA assays.
• Four software licenses are provided with the instrument, two for PC and two for Mac.
• Image analysis using IQ-TL proved to be quite powerful and user friendly, enabling accurate quantification.
