1. BACKGROUND
1.1. In JAN 2020, USSOCOM began to replace NSW's variety of Multiband Handheld (MBHH) radios with the AN/PRC-163. The AN/PRC-163 is a larger form factor than previous (or legacy) MBHH radios and contains multiple radio transmitters which result in the radio obstructing the tactical mobility of the NSW User. The use of conformal antennas mitigates the tactical mobility issue but requires that the conformal antennas be functionally equivalent and easily managed, from a technical and operational (fit or function) perspective, for our NSW Users.
2. OBJECTIVE
2.1. The WARCOM program office has only procured a limited number of conformal antennas to NSWG-8.
Currently PRC-163 radios are fielded without these conformal antennas causing a tactical mobility concern.
3. DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT
3.1. Product Name: Mastodon Wearable Antennas
3.2. Description and Capabilities: Wearable low-profile antenna
1.1. Specifications/Salient Characteristics: The Mastodon antennas are ultra-lightweight and designed to streamline an operator kit by saving space, preventing snags, and reducing the over-all profile.
The antennas also provide increased transmit and receive performance with increased gain while body worn.
