About this file
This performance work statement outlines repair and maintenance services required for a Kincaid 8XP research combine owned by the USDA Agricultural Research Service. The contractor will replace damaged components including the grain weigh system, belts, hoses, and internal machinery. Authorized technicians will perform repairs, installation, and calibration to factory specifications by September 30, 2023. The research combine is used to mechanically harvest and measure sorghum yields from multi-location trials conducted by the USDA-ARS Cropping Systems Research Laboratory in Lubbock, Texas in collaboration with three universities. The related federal contract opportunity solicitation number 12805B23Q0533 also involves this repair and maintenance work.

Performance Work Statement (PWS)
Project: Repair and Maintenance of Kincaid 8XP Research Combine
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 Background and Purpose:
This equipment is needed to perform work associated CRIS objectives (CRIS # 3096- 21000-021-000D, NP301, C1, PS1A, C3, PS3A and CRIS #3096-21000-022-000D, NP301, C1, PS1A, C3, PS3A) for sorghum. This research combine will be used in a multi-institution collaborative sorghum project with three Universities and the Germplasm Development Research Unit of the Cropping Systems Research Laboratory in Lubbock TX. The proposed research encompasses a holistic approach to develop sorghum germplasm with improved agronomic and plant physiological characters that in turn will improve plant productivity. The research aim is to stack morphological plant traits that will lead to improved fitness under optimal and marginal production scenarios. The research will require multi-location trials of a strategic panel of sorghum accessions with varied genetics. This equipment is used to mechanically harvest and measure grain yield from research field plots. This grain yield data, in combination with other measured parameters, will allow a thorough evaluation of all sorghum accessions across multi-locations for important plant physiological characters necessary for improved fitness. Purchase of this instrument will allow our data collection to be uniform from location to location providing for robust data analysis and comparison.
2.0 Specifications:
Replacement of grain weigh system, replacement of damaged belts, hoses, and internal combine machinery components. Repair, installation, and calibration by authorized technicians will be performed to factory specifications. If during the process of repair, additional parts or items for repair are discovered, authorization for repairs and additional expenses need to be approved before repairs can be made. The service work is to be completed within 30 days of award but no later than September 31, 2023.
