About this file
Summary: Specification for Optical Comparator
This is a Specification document for the procurement of a Starrett HF750 Series Optical Comparator for the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The equipment will be utilized daily in the Model Shop precision inspection lab to measure small, hard-to-measure features for parts and assemblies to ensure conformance with drawing requirements before delivery to end users.
The specification requires a new, fully functional floor-standing optical comparator with automatic optical edge detection and data retention/transmission capabilities. Required hardware specifications include minimum 300mm x 200mm X-Y travel, magnification capabilities at 10x, 20x, and 50x (with optional 100x), both surface and profile illumination, a 30-inch diameter screen with precision cross lines and overlay clips, motorized X and Y axes with variable speed control, turret-mounted condenser system with yellow/green filter, 330-pound stage weight capacity, 17.5-inch work stage capacity between centers, fully retractable duplex fiber optic surface illumination, 20-micron resolution Heidenhain linear scales, and a full canopy with curtains. Accuracy specifications require profile accuracy of ±0.05%, surface illumination accuracy of ±0.10%, and linear measurement accuracy of ±0.005mm per 100mm measured at 10x magnification. The contractor must provide a 1-year warranty covering parts and labor, deliver the equipment FOB Arnold Air Force Base with all preservation and packaging, provide installation and setup in accordance with ISO Standards, conduct a 3-day training class for up to two personnel, and furnish Installation Guide, Acceptance documents, Maintenance Manual, Electrical Manual, Schematics, and DVD disks or internet-downloadable documentation. Refurbished or remanufactured machines are not authorized; any alternative equipment or software combinations require prior approval from the requestor.
